For Sale: 1970 Plymouth Road Runner in Volo, Illinois

Vehicle Description

Survivor with 39,228 unabused actual miles! Original #'s matching drivetrain. Documented with original broadcast sheet and fender tag. Original metal, interior and even the paint is claimed to be original. This an extremely well-preserved Road Runner thar was lovingly cared for since day one. Very desirable Lemon Twist yellow color from the factory. One owner car until 2017. This one is a great representation of what the Road Runner was intended for: a performance car for $3,000.

EXTERIOR: Original metal! Even the paint has been claimed to be original, we believe it may have had some paint work done. Eye popping factory Lemon Twist yellow color. It has a smooth and glossy finish. The panels are properly aligned with gaps that are spot on. The doors close with minimal effort. All the trim plus the front and rear bumpers still have a lustrous shine. The hood bulge is equipped with a 383 call out and functioning turn signal indicators. The front grille appears to be original and in phenomenal condition. The vinyl decals have been replaced. It is sitting on body colored rims with poverty hubcaps and reproduction Goodyear Polyglass tires that are size F70-14.

INTERIOR: Said to be all original and in outstanding condition! The headliner is not sagging. The dash pad is not cracked. The seats are not torn. The pedals are not worn. The carpeting is not dirty and the dome light still works. It has a radio delete and a remote drivers mirror. It also has seatbelts in the front and back plus a day/night rear view mirror. I'm blown away by the amazing condition of this interior!

ENGINE COMPARTMENT: The original #'s matching engine and transmission are still in place. It appears to be very stock looking; we replaced the carburetor, and the original is included. It also had its original engine paint touched up and is nicely detailed. It has the original dual snorkel air cleaner with Road Runner pie tin. The battery is properly secured and the squirters are hooked up. The original trim tag is still located on the driver's side fender. And of course, it has the very famous purple "beep beep" horn that works perfectly.

TRUNK COMPARTMENT: The underside of the trunk lid is complete with original looking jack instructions and handwritten tire size. The weather stripping appears to be original also. Under the rubber mat is all clean and solid metal that still retains what we believe is its original paint. It's equipped with a full-size spare tire that is mounted on a body colored rim. It is complete with a jack assembly and lug wrench.

UNDERSIDE: Wow, it looks like a restored undercarriage but it's original! The floors are absolutely rust-free original metal still wearing original yellow overspray from the body paint. The factory undercoat is in the proper locations. The dual exhaust was replaced with reproduction, it has the penstar logo on the mufflers and the correct chrome tips. The steering and suspension components are clean. The brakes work great, the lines are clean, we cut the rear drums and the e-brake cables are hooked up. The fuel tank looks fresh but we replaced the float. Looking up at the motor it is clean and it's original paint on the oil pan. You can clearly see the casting codes dates and the matching VIN number stamped by the oil pan. The VIN number matched 727 Torqueflite automatic trans is also in place. The 8 3/4" rear end with 3.23 gears still has some factory paint markings as well.

SERVICE: Our shop inspected the car and tightened the belts, replaced the carburetor (the original one is still included), fixed the tabs on the front ashtray, repaired the turn signal connection, replaced the gas tank float, fixed the wipers, adjusted the lock rod, and cut the front drums.

This true survivor is unmolested and as pure as they get. Its remarkable original condition will give you flashbacks straight to 1970. It's an investment grade vehicle that can still be driven and enjoyed. A car that's all go! Plymouth makes it!
