Vehicle Description
Chassis No. WDBBA48D1HA069630
In September 1985, the SL models were thoroughly modernized and
showcased at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt, featuring
minor external changes, enhanced front-wheel suspension, and a new
range of engines. The most notable addition was a 5.6-liter V8,
created by lengthening the stroke of the existing 5.0-liter engine;
however, this engine was not utilized in the domestic SL models but
was reserved for S-Class saloons and coupes. The 560 SL, a detuned
version equipped with a catalytic converter to comply with
emissions regulations, was exclusively exported to the U.S.,
Australia, and Japan. Production of the R107 series ended in August
1989, over 18 years since the first 350 SL was introduced, with its
successor, the R129 SL series, unveiled to the public in March
1989.
Destined for the United States when new, this 1987 560 SL was
ordered new in the elegant combination of Pearl Grey Metallic (122)
with a beautiful Blue Leather interior. Complete with a
color-matched hardtop and full PPF, this car offers the dynamics of
an open roadster with the refinement of a coupe whenever desired.
The car was well-appointed, with many standard features not seen in
other vehicles at the time, including an outside temperature
indicator, steering wheel mounted airbag, heated side view mirrors,
anti-theft/anti-break-in warning system, sun visors with
illuminated vanity mirrors, and an automatic antenna. These
amenities came in addition to the leather upholstery, anti-lock
brakes, locking differential, and automatic climate control.
Today this car is presented with a remarkably low 10,238 miles at
the time of cataloging. As a result of its limited usage, the car
remains beautifully preserved. Numerous factory-applied finishes
typically worn away with use can still be found throughout the car.
To complete its presentation, this low mileage 1987 Mercedes-Benz
560 SL with its rarely seen color combination is offered with its
books, original, unmounted spare wheel and Pirelli P6 tire, jack,
and tool kit in its original bag.
