The Ford GT emerged from a "retro futuristic" renaissance that
swept through the automotive world in the early 2000s, with
manufacturers drawing inspiration from the most recognizable
designs in their history. Unveiled as a concept at the 2002 North
American International Auto Show, the new GT paid homage to Ford's
legendary GT40 racers that triumphed at the 24 Hours of Le Mans
four consecutive times from 1966 to 1969. By late 2004, Ford had
transformed the concept into a production reality, instantaneously
cementing its status as a rare and coveted modern classic.
At the heart of the Ford GT rested a supercharged, 32-valve V8
engine producing 550 horsepower. This powerplant was cradled in a
sophisticated chassis constructed of hydroformed aluminum and
composite materials, complemented by advanced unequal- length
aluminum control arms and Brembo brakes at all four corners.
Automotive journalists lauded the Ford GT, often drawing favorable
comparisons to its Italian and German rivals, with Car and Driver
writing in their comparison test of the GT, Porsche 911 GT3, and
Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale, "It wasn't even a contest."
This Ford GT is one of 477 examples finished in Centennial White
with full stripes for the 2005 model year. It was further optioned
with the eye-catching red-finished brake calipers, and a premium
McIntosh sound system for those moments when the symphonic roar of
the V8 isn't quite enough. The accompanying CARFAX Vehicle History
Report shows that the GT has been registered and routinely serviced
in North Carolina from new. Meticulously cared for throughout its
life, this GT has benefited from long-term care in two North
Carolina-based collections before joining the consignor. Most
recently, in September 2024, the GT was treated to a multi-point
inspection and oil and filter replacement at Mooresville Ford,
ensuring its continued mechanical preservation for its next
fortunate owner.
With fewer than 2,600 original miles at the time of cataloging,
this Ford GT presents in truly excellent condition. The original
towing instruction tags are still in place, and all interior
appointments including the air conditioning and gauges are reported
to be in excellent working order. Even the all-too-common problem
of corrosion on the steering wheel emblem has been professionally
addressed. It is accompanied by its OEM factory car cover and bag,
as well as its owner's manuals still pristinely wrapped in their
original plastic. Furthermore, this GT is offered with extensive
factory documentation, including a Ford GT Certificate of Origin, a
letter to Ford dealers with a GT update, Mooresville Ford
allocation participation form, Ford marketing strategy and mix
recommendations document, Ford Performance Group paint and option
matrix, Ford dealer handbook, and a Ford GT brochure. This
comprehensive documentation package provides a fascinating insight
into the GT's production and marketing strategy.
In the span of nearly two decades since its debut, the automotive
world has witnessed a revolution in technology and a parade of new
supercars. Yet, the Ford GT's enduring appeal stems from its
breathtaking heritage-inspired aesthetics that continue to turn
heads and its unadulterated, analog driving experience. For
discerning collectors, this low mileage GT represents an
opportunity not to be overlooked.
