Vehicle Description
Chassis No. AR1495F07035
The Alfa Romeo Giulietta series, introduced in 1954, quickly became
one of the most beloved Italian sports cars of its era. A spirited
twin-cam 1,300 cc inline-four engine, paired with a lithe,
brilliantly engineered chassis, optional five-speed gearbox, and
powerful finned alloy drum brakes set it apart in the competitive
sports car landscape of its time. This versatile unibody platform
accommodated various body styles, ranging from the four-door
Berlina and the Bertone-designed Sprint coupe to Pininfarina's
exquisite Spider. Available in both Normale and high-performance
Veloce specifications, the latter, equipped with an uprated engine
topped with dual Weber carburetors and producing 10 additional
horsepower, proved to be a particularly potent platform. The
example presented here showcases the model's inherent potential for
further modification, highlighting the Giulietta's remarkable
versatility as a basis for both preservation and performance
enhancement.
Finished in a white exterior, this Veloce variant showcases the
timeless Pinin Farina-penned bodywork to great effect. The elegant
lines are complemented by re-chromed bumpers and trim as well as a
tan soft top - work reportedly undertaken during previous
ownership. Under the hood lies a replacement 2.0-liter DOHC
inline-four engine, a significant upgrade from the original
1.3-liter unit. Notably however, the original numbers-matching
engine is also included in the sale. This powerplant is fed by a
pair of Weber side-draft carburetors, promising both increased
performance and the fizzy exhaust note so characteristic of Italian
sports cars of this era, which is further enhanced by an
aftermarket exhaust system. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels
through an ever-desirable five-speed manual transmission. The cabin
expertly balances comfort and sportiness, featuring tan vinyl seats
with matching door panels, set against green carpeting. Crow lap
belts, a dash-mounted rearview mirror, and Alfa-branded floor mats
complete the interior appointments.
This Giulietta Spider Veloce is understood to have been campaigned
in SCCA events under previous ownership. Its competition-ready
stance is supported by 15 inch Borrani steel wheels, refinished
under previous ownership and mounted with Pirelli Four Season
tires, as well as enhanced stopping power thanks to upgraded front
disc brakes. Its thoughtful modifications and competition history,
combined with its rarity and factory performance upgrades as a
sought-after Veloce model, make it an ideal candidate for rallies,
tours, and casual driving events. As with all Giulietta Spiders,
this example continues to embody the essence of 1950s Italian
motoring, offering its next custodian a thrilling blend of style,
performance, and La Dolce Vita.
