Following the Can-Am and Interserie racing eras, the FIA shifted
its focus to production-based competition cars, prompting Porsche
to follow suit. The 2.7-liter Carrera RS was the homologation
variant of the racing 2.8-liter Carrera RSR, for which the FIA
required 500 street cars to be built for Group 4 Special GT
competition. Renowned as the pinnacle model of the early 911, the
RS's air-cooled flat-six engine, masterfully developed by Hans
Mezger, produced an impressive 210 horsepower and 188 lb-ft of
torque. It also debuted such groundbreaking features as the
now-iconic "ducktail" rear spoiler. This distinctive element not
only enhanced high-speed stability but also achieved the remarkable
feat of reducing drag while doing so.
Fifty years later, Porsche unveiled a fitting tribute to this
legendary machine exclusive to U.S. customers during 2022 Monterey
Car Week. The "911 GT3 RS Tribute to Carrera RS Package" paid
homage to its predecessor while showcasing the latest in Porsche's
performance engineering. Featuring a carefully curated collection
of styling elements and bespoke accessories, exterior enhancements
included magnesium wheels, mirror caps, and GT3 RS side graphics,
all finished in a striking Python Green. The rear of the car
featured "PORSCHE" script on the underside of the wing, a GT3 RS
graphic on the bumper, and a special RS logo on the wing end plates
adorned with the American flag. Interior modifications further
distinguished this special edition, with green deviated stitching,
illuminated door sill guards bearing "Tribute to Carrera RS"
script, and a center console lid embossed with the "RS" logo.
The package also included the lightweight Weissach Package as
standard, introducing extensive use of exposed carbon fiber both
inside and out, as well as in crucial chassis components. Buyers
had the option to have the hood and roof painted in body color at
no additional cost, while still benefiting from the performance
enhancements of the Weissach Package, including the lightweight
magnesium wheels.
The example presented here is a truly exceptional offering, as one
of only 150 911 GT3 RS Tribute to Carrera RS Package cars produced.
This particular one-owner vehicle, showing a mere 77 miles on the
odometer at the time of cataloging, represents a rare opportunity
to acquire what is essentially a factory-fresh example. Its
delivery mileage status ensures that the bespoke features of the
Tribute Package remain in pristine condition, as well as an array
of specially created accessories, including a custom car cover,
Python Green RS valve stem caps and key caps, custom license plate
frames, a pair of 1:43 scale model cars, and a bespoke Porsche
Design timepiece. As a virtually untouched representation of
Porsche's homage to its iconic predecessor, this car stands as an
ideal investment-grade vehicle for any Porsche collector.
This modern interpretation served as a fitting homage to the 1972
legend, bridging five decades of Porsche innovation and carrying
forward the spirit of the original RS into the 21st century. With
its extremely limited production of just 150 units, this GT3 RS
Tribute to Carrera RS represents one of the rarest and most
exclusive modern Porsches ever created, making it a truly special
addition to any collection.
