The 1958 Mercury Park Lane debuted as the new flagship model in
Mercury's lineup, replacing the outgoing Turnpike Cruiser and
positioning itself to compete directly with luxury offerings like
the Buick Limited and Chrysler 300D. Billed as "the perfect
companion for pleasure," the Park Lane epitomized American
automotive opulence and style of the late 1950s. It boasted a
potent 430 cu-in V8 engine producing 345 horsepower, and beginning
in 1959, a 128 inch wheelbase, placing it among the most powerful
and longest cars in its class. The Park Lane's distinctive styling
featured quad headlights, a bold grille, and prominent tailfins -
quintessential design elements of the legendary Jet Age. Available
in several body styles including a 2-Door Hardtop Cruiser, 4-Door
Hardtop Cruiser, and Convertible, the Park Lane aimed to captivate
discerning buyers seeking a premium full-size automobile that could
stand toe-to-toe with the finest from rival marques.
Presented here is a stunning example of the 1959 Mercury Park Lane
Convertible. Its white pinpoint vinyl power soft top allows
occupants to fully immerse themselves in an open-air driving
experience. Finished in a black exterior with red accents over a
duo-tone red and white vinyl interior, this Park Lane Convertible
exudes opulence thanks to a full complement of standard luxury
equipment. These include a three-speed Merc-O-Matic transmission,
power steering, and power brakes.
Formerly a member of prominent Ford collector Jerry Capizzi's
esteemed Cappy Collection, this Park Lane Convertible was acquired
by the current owner in 2006 and has since enjoyed careful
preservation in a climate-controlled museum space. Now offered with
its spare wheel, jack, and owner's manual, this Park Lane
Convertible represents a prime opportunity for collectors to
acquire an exceptionally-preserved piece of 1950s American luxury,
loaded with the finest industry-leading amenities and appointments
Ford had to offer.
