Vehicle Description
Chassis No. 5CXSA1819XL000267
In 1994, Carroll Shelby, the tireless automotive legend renowned
for creating the iconic Cobra, set out to develop its spiritual
heir. The resulting Shelby Series 1 emerged as the first all-new
Shelby design since the 1960s and the only car ever entirely
conceived and built from scratch by Carroll Shelby himself.
This modern reincarnation of the 289 Cobra featured a sophisticated
chassis of Shelby's own design, wrapped in a sleek carbon fiber
body. A potent Oldsmobile 4.0-liter Aurora V8 engine coupled with a
ZF six-speed manual transmission ensured both robust performance
and mechanical reliability - a hallmark of Shelby's pragmatic
approach to high-performance automobiles. Weighing a mere 2,650
pounds and producing 320 horsepower, the Series 1 was capable of
accelerating from zero to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds. Shelby also
offered a supercharger package that propelled the car into supercar
territory. These enhanced examples boasted a blistering zero to 60
mph time of just 3.2 seconds completing the quarter-mile run in a
mere 11.35 seconds at 124 mph. It is believed that approximately 60
of the total 249 Shelby Series 1s produced received this coveted
supercharger upgrade directly from Shelby.
Chassis number CSX 5267 is one such supercharged example, finished
in an exceptionally rare red color scheme with white racing
stripes. The car rides on three-piece 18 inch alloy wheels and
features a black cloth soft top. The interior, trimmed in light and
dark gray leather, remains in outstanding condition throughout. Of
particular note are the autographs adorning the sun visors - the
late Carroll Shelby's signature on the driver's side and Tony
Stewart's on the passenger's, adding a layer of provenance to this
already exceptional example. Modern amenities including air
conditioning, power windows, door locks, and remotely operated
exterior mirrors. An AM/FM/cassette stereo rounds out the comfort
features.
According to the accompanying CARFAX Vehicle History Report, this
Series 1 was initially registered in Indiana in the early 2000s,
lending credence to the belief that it was delivered new to NASCAR
legend Tony Stewart. The car later joined the Texas-based
collection of the consignor in 2023. Under current ownership, the
battery has been replaced to ensure the car's readiness for its
next caretaker. Adding to its appeal, this Series 1 is accompanied
by a rare owner's manual and a car cover.
With a mere 957 miles on the odometer at the time of cataloging,
this Shelby Series 1 represents an investment-grade example,
distinguished by its rare red exterior, extraordinarily low
mileage, and the highly sought-after supercharged configuration - a
trifecta of attributes that positions this vehicle at the pinnacle
of Series 1 collectability.
