Vehicle Description
The 912 built by Porsche from 1965 through 1969 was the entry level
Porsche after the discontinuation of the 356 and was used as a
filler until the more powerful more expensive 911 took off. The 912
is the same design as the 911, however only offering the tuned down
version of the left over 356 engines. The 912 is a light and nimble
Sports car that offered nearly 30 MPG due to the low drag and high
efficiency engine. Now for the good stuff....This might be the most
highly documented car that I have had here in our Traverse City
location. It was ordered for European delivery on June 19, 1967
from Bob Smith Porsche in Hollywood, CA. The original purchase
order would have the color ordered as Lido Gold, but the original
delivery document from Porsche and pictures of the car on the
assembly line verifies that the car was painted Orange Tangerine.
The car has Maintenance records dating all the way back with dealer
stamps in the maintenance book for the first several years and then
in 1974, there is service records with receipts all the way
through, there also several notepads with hand written service on
them. The original purchase order along with cleared check, window
sticker, correspondence from Porsche, pictures of the owner taking
delivery in Germany, shipping paperwork and original owners manual
are all original and come with the sale of this car. This 912 has
had four documented owners with me knowing the last two since 1999.
Before 1999 the car was always a California car and since being in
Michigan has had two incredible stewards and collectors taking care
of this gorgeous cars. The first owner had the car from 67-81,
second owner from 81-99, third owner 99-08 and finally for the last
16 years the fourth owner. The car was never abused and shows no
signs of rust or rot anywhere, other than what described in a email
to the fourth owner from the second owner. Sometime in the late
1980's the cars cover caught fire but was quickly extinguished
causing minor paint damage to the hood of the car, and because of
the age of the car, the shop was unsure how close they could match
the paint so the entire car was repainted It still shows very well
in my opinion. The only other thing that we know for sure is that
the front seats were recovered, other than these couple things this
is a fantastic nearly all original car including numbers matching
engine and transmission. This was a factory A/C car, however the
compressor has been removed. It does come with the car if you
wanted to have it restored. Due to health issues, the car has not
been driven much the last few years but runs, drives and stops as
it should. The underside is solid and original with some weepy
valve cover gaskets, probably from sitting recently and then being
driven. The car, the history is just incredible. Please let us know
if you would like any further information or would like more
information about the said paperwork.
