1969 Kaiser Jeep Corp Jeepster Commando  

General: Matching numbers vehicle. 3 year Off-Frame restoration project with 2,200 hours work and only 2,198 miles on vehicle since restoration. Complete documentation of work performed, over 100 pictures, parts lists & costs.. Garaged since restoration. Only 11,289 manufactured in 1969. An extensive list of work follows.

Engine:

  • Custom built Buick 225 CI/3.7L V6; Bored .030 over to approx. 232/3.8L CI. Rotating system balanced with RV Camshaft and pistons. Offenhauser Dual Plane Intake Manifold, Edelbrock Performer 500 cfm 4 Barrel Carburetor, DUI electronic ignition and Holly Ultra Quiet external electric fuel pump. Estimated 230HP/230FP Torque. Fuel efficiency on break-in was 18mpg.

Drive Train:

  • Rebuilt GM Turbo Hydramatic 400, 3 speed automatic transmission with shift kit & Lokar Kick down switch.
  • Spicer 20 transfer case cleaned, inspected, and replaced fluid w/ 85-140 weight gear oil.
  • Front & rear drive shafts professionally rebuilt & balanced w/new Spicer u-joints.
  • DANA 27A front axle 3:31.1 ratio. New wheel hubs, spindles, wheel bearings, disk brake conversion & AVM manual locking 4wd system. Inspected differential gears, new fluid. 
  • DANA 44 rear axle 3:31.1 ratio. R&R’d new hubs, drums, shoes & bearings, gears, cylinders, new fluid.
  • Cleaned fuel tank, sealed, new sending unit & line.
  • Repaired and flushed radiator, new hoses.
  • (5) New Goodyear Wrangler 225 R75 x 15 tires.
  • Power steering conversion with new pump and box.
  • New corvette style power brake booster & master cylinder kit, proportioning valve & vacuum hoses.
  • New battery, new starter.
  • New dual exhaust system.

Interior:

  • Rewired/installed new fuse panels w/new fuses and new electrical wiring front to back.
  • Restored vinyl trim; dashboard, console and visors.
  • New Smitty-Built seat belts & Seat covers over OEM.
  • New floor insulation & OEM rubber floor mat.
  • New wood grained gauge panel with fuel, voltmeter, oil and water temp gauges. Speedometer and odometer work in original cluster.
  • Good spare tire in original location.

Exterior:

  • Removed body completely off frame, dismantled all components including axles; welded in new 18 gauge steel floorboard & rocker panels, repaired dents, and media blasted entire body and frame.
  • 4 level rust proofing; etched w/Osphoric acid, POR15 painted and Rhino lined frame & underbody and applied 2 coats of Y2K primer.
  • Painted with 3 coats of single stage Bronze/Gold metal flake.
  • New Red Pro-thane urethane body mount bushings, washers and bolts. Replaced all vehicle worn bolts, washers and nuts with grade 5 & 8 automotive bolts and torqued to factory specs.
  • New six-leaf rear springs, spring bushings front and rear & 4 heavy duty shocks.
  • New windshield and rubber seal.
  • New headlights, signal lights, brake light lenses.
  • New window rubber seals & channel guides

Disclosures: Paint; as most cases, has minor imperfections when viewed close in. Driver door window & side window have minor scratches. Vehicle has no radio; radio opening is covered with custom wood gauge panel.
