Vehicle Description
Very few things scream Americana like a 1950s full size station
wagon. 1958 was a sweet spot in the styling between the rounded
look of the early '50s and the crazy fins that were soon to reach
epic proportions.
In a nutshell this is a good wagon to either drive ratty or
restore. She still has her original 370 in Pontiac V8 which runs
beautifully. The carburetor is freshly rebuilt and she has a new
fuel pump. Power is put to the ground through her smooth shifting
Hydramatic 4 speed automatic. The engine runs cool, has no bad
habits and has good oil pressure. The brakes were rebuilt including
new metal line from front to rear as well as new hoses.
Overall the body is in respectable condition. The doors close with
a nice thud and she has good panel gaps all around. There are a few
perforations in the floors and the left passenger floorboard has
been patched. New stamped panels are readily available and
inexpensive. There is some rust in the rockers and doors and just
along the front lip of the hood. This is evidenced in a few places
by perforations and others by some bubbling under the paint. While
this car does have some rust it is not what you would call a rusty
car. The frame is straight and solid. The interior is mostly
original and fairly ratty. The seats do fold down but this
particular car was not equipped with the third row seating.
If you wished to drive the car in her current condition she'll need
new tires. The tires on the vehicle are in awful to horrible
condition :-), but we did not replace them since the new owner may
not even wish to use the steel wheels. The drivetrain seems to be
in very good usable condition.
All the trim is present and in respectable unrestored condition for
a 65-year-old car.
She's sweet, she's pretty and she needs your love.
