Vehicle Description
Champagne wishes and caviar dreams will soon be yours if you wish
to own this 1987 Rolls-Royce Silver Spur II. This example is a
left-hand drive European export, which explains its flush,
rectangular headlights. It is offered in the most desirable color
combination of triple black, very stately!
Made in Crewe, Cheshire, England, this example is one of only 6,238
units made between 1980 and 1989. Dressed in black (code 9500701)
with a black, full vinyl roof, the cars paint and trim are in
overall very good order. The cars bodywork is straight and solid,
the engine bay is extremely tidy, the chrome and black vinyl
wraparound bumpers are in excellent shape and the battery appears
new.
This Silver Spur rolls on Hercules MRX + IV whitewall radials, size
225/75R15 at all four corners. Each tire is mounted on a steel
wheel topped with a flat, full disc RR wheel cover. The wheels are
in very good condition while the tires have above average tread and
are in similar condition to the wheel covers.
Under the hood is the famous 6.75L OHV 16-valve V-8 engine with
sufficient horsepower (code L410I) with Bosch fuel injection.
Buttoned to this engine is General Motors Turbo Hydramatic 400
three-speed automatic transmission and a 3.08:1 final drive. Driver
conveniences, are, as expected, lengthy electronic automatic
climate control, power rack-and-pinion steering, power four-wheel
disc brakes, cruise control, power windows, headlamp washers, rear
window defroster and period-specific cell phone antenna affixed to
the outer rear window. Also included is a hydropneumatic
self-leveling suspension with a Girling automatic ride height
control system.
Inside, the cars Mulliner Park Ward coachwork has a matching black
interior. There are gorgeous Connolly Leather Seats, (code A3726),
with matching Wilton Wool Carpets (code 07) which emit a wonderful
sensory smell. The seats and carpets are excellent order, as is the
gray headliner. A two-spoke steering wheel faces the driver and it,
the inner door panels with burled walnut trim are in excellent
order. The A/C blows cool but not cold. The instrument panel, with
its full array of gauges, is also wreathed in burled walnut. In
back, along with plenty of room to stretch ones legs and not feel
claustrophobic, there are fold-down Walnut tables and leather arm
rests plus footrests. A Delco-Bose AM/FM stereo with cassette deck
and five-band graphic equalizer rounds out the interior.
Documentation includes original owners manual, assorted other
papers and receipts from recent service at Rolls Royce St. Louis.
Please note that this is a Euro spec car that was imported in the
late 1980s. Our understanding that the cluster was changed from
kilometers to miles by the evidence of the official Rolls Royce
sticker in the drivers door jam.
Competition to this Rolls-Royce in 1987 included BMWs 750iL,
Cadillacs Fleetwood Brougham, Jaguars XJ6, Lincolns Town Car and
Mercedes-Benzs 560 SEL.
