Vehicle Description
Mercury revised its model line in 1955 with the introduction of the
new top-of-the-line Montclair. This new model would move the
Monterey into a mid-tier level model. Enhanced style lines and
contrasting color combinations would set the Montclair apart.
Further revisions by 1956 were substantial with the new Mercury's
receiving a 312ci Thunderbird V8 providing 210 horsepower under the
hood along with standard dual exhaust and 12-volt charging systems.
The bodyside molding became a full-length chrome spear, with
multiple two-tone or "Flo-tone" color combinations to choose from.
They were beautiful and carried the newly designed headlight brows
very well! Buyers could choose from 2-door or 4-door models, along
with an optional convertible.
Offered here is a nicely restored 1956 Mercury Montclair 2-door
Hardtop finished in a tri-tone Classic White with a complimenting
Black & White vinyl interior. Powered by a 312ci V8-4bbl and
Merc-O-Matic 3-speed automatic transmission, this beautiful
boulevard cruiser comes sporting a terrific set of options that
includes a rear continental spare tire assembly, power steering,
power brakes, power driver seat, dual outside mirrors, rear fender
skirts, heat/defrost, all tinted window glass, and wide whitewall
radial tires!
This car was located in the Kansas City area with its former owners
of 16 years. While in their care, it was fully restored in frame-up
fashion to include all new exterior paint, replated chrome,
polished trim, and complete interior along with new weather seals
and gaskets. Ancillary components like shocks, tires, etc. were
included in the process. It would be enjoyed seasonally each year
and stowed away under a soft cover on a lift in the garage when not
in use. After the husband's passing in June 2023, the family would
retain ownership for another year before offering it for sale. Upon
acquisition by the St. Louis Car Museum, we would replace the gas
tank and mounting hardware, rebuild the carburetor, and install a
new mechanical fuel pump. The spark plugs, distributor cap/rotor,
condenser and contact set, along with the ignition coil would also
be replaced. The brakes received a new dual master brake cylinder,
front wheel cylinders, and full fluid flush allowing us to adjust
the brakes properly. We installed two new rear Coker Classic 2.5"
whitewall tires in the process.
The mileage reading on the odometer shows 50,796 miles with no
known engine rebuild history, so it will be sold mileage exempt.
Inside the trunk you will find the complete spare and jack
assembly, along with a complete workshop manual and extra interior
seating material in black. These classic Mercury Montclair's offer
so much bang for the buck and showcase all that 1950's era chrome
exceptionally well! Make a statement at your next cruise-in or
local car show with this Montclair! Call with questions or to
arrange your chance to review it in person. Thanks as always for
looking!
