1929 Ford Model A Tudor Sedan
The Tudor sedan body style was one of the first Model A body
styles. In fact, the "mysterious new Ford" seen on the streets of
Detroit in the fall of 1927 was indeed the new Model A Tudor sedan.
The most popular of all Model A body styles, the Tudor was
available in all 4 Model A years, with well over 1.25 million of
them being built between 1928 and 1931.
For consignment, a 1929 Ford Model A Tudor sedan showing an
unverifiable 24,061 miles, a street rod version of the common Model
A with a cool stance, a clean interior, and yes, a Ford engine
under the hood! Chevrolet powerplant fans will have to take a back
seat on this one.
Exterior
Dark Red Metallic coasts our Tudor sedan which is lowered on
15-inch American Racing wheels with staggered size tires that give
the square car a slightly raked stance, helped by a four inch drop
in front. And while we're admiring the profile of the car, let's
note the non-chopped top allowing for big windows to remain which
undoubtedly provides good visibility. Tan pinstripes are used
extensively around the windows, over the hood and along the body
with a raised section that seems to emulate a heartbeat on an EKG.
The stripe also appears on the fenders. In front, a chrome grille
surroundframes a mesh grated grille, all topped with the flying
quail hood ornament on the cap of the radiator. A body colored
visor, also with pinstripes, looms over the vertical windshield
which is just behind the gas tank in the cowl. The metalwork is all
in good shape including the bumpers, hardware, and chrome tips of
the exhaust. Imperfections in the paint include bubbles down low,
missing paint on the lip of the wheel opening, cracking paint, and
various scratches, chips, and orange peel.
Interior
Gray tweed door cards wear a red accent piece and simple hardware
in an uncomplicated arrangement. Modern sport bucket seats are
dressed in the same tweed with red piping with "29 Ford"
embroidered on the headrests. In back is a narrow bench that blends
in with the wall coverings all in gray tweed and red accenting, and
all in clean condition. For the driver, a 3 spoke sport steering
wheel fronts a clean dash, color keyed to the body and glossy, and
housing brass colored retro Ford gauges with added A/C buttons just
below. A familiar Ford shifter is floor mounted and surrounded by
black loop carpet and mats in good condition. An overhead console
is present with reading lights and click down compartments,
surrounded by red tweed which accents the gray tweed sectional
headliner. Even the window frames are covered in tweed.
Drivetrain
Behind the engine covers we find a clean 302ci V8 with an Edelbrock
intake manifold and 4-barrel carburetor. Behind it, a C4 3-speed
automatic transmission that was rebuilt in 2021 and sends power to
the Ford 8" rear. Disc brakes are up front and drums in the
rear.
Undercarriage
Relatively clean underneath with minimal surface rust, only
residual oil, and dry components not laden with grease. Dual
exhaust and glasspack style mufflers before dumping from chrome
tips out back and suspension consists of a 4-bar with a transverse
leaf spring in front and ladder bars in the back where we also find
knob adjustable shock absorbers.
Drive-Ability
Tweed wraps you up like a warm blanket inside which will be great
for those early Fall morning car shows. Meanwhile, the cabin
provides a comfortable seat and sitting position and a grippy
little steering wheel to maneuver this low slung sedan. The 302
cranks to life with a pretty good roar and the song continues on
our route as we put our right foot in it just a bit. Acceleration
is good, handling is great, and visibility, as expected, is
excellent. We love the look of a chopped rod, but we also like the
greenhouse that the stock window height creates. All of the limited
functionality in the car works. While Classic Auto Mall represents
that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we

We love the two stage paint and manageable size of this Ford with a
stance that's just right too. If you're looking to get into the Hot
