Vehicle Description

1969 Pontiac LeMans Hardtop

The Pontiac LeMans is a model name applied to automobiles marketed by Pontiac. The name came from the French city of Le Mans, the site of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the world's oldest active sports car endurance race that began in 1923. Originally a trim upgrade package based on the Tempest, the LeMans became a separate model in 1963. 1969 was part of the third generation, introduced in 1968 and produced through 1972. The Tempest line received a minor styling update for 1969, with new tail light and grille treatments. The Pontiac Tempest LeMans was available as coupe, hardtop, convertible, and a 4 door hardtop. The most popular was the 2 door hardtop which saw 82,817 examples produced. 5,676 were convertibles, 6,475 were 4 door hardtops, and 5,033 were coupes.

Exterior
For 1968 GM fully revamped the A-body design with a full on change from the flying buttress long and lean era to a more rounded coke bottle design. At the front of the car, Pontiac's familiar stainless trimmed twin grilles hang dual headlights and a pristine white Pontiac script behind a beaked chrome bumper. Below that bumper, the car's curved front valance features aggressive wrap around parking lights; and above that bumper, a sculpted hood with Pontiac's nod to the native Americans with almost an arrowhead design stamped into the hood. Behind the expansive hood, like-new glass is bordered by an attractive layer of bright stainless trim and a correct chrome driver's side mirror. Below that mirror, expressive 'coke bottle' fenders are highlighted by dent free stainless wheel well trim, straight stainless rocker moldings and traditional chrome door handles. On the front fenders, LeMans badges add just the right amount of flash to the car's calming Cameo Ivory paint. On the back fenders, arrowhead marker lights give a nod to the Pontiac heritage dressing the rear panels. At the back of the car, a show worthy chrome bumper hangs showroom fresh taillights between spotless stainless exhaust tips and a white and chrome LeMans trunk emblem. This is all topped by a black vinyl top that is factory applied providing nice contrast to the Ivory. Speaking of the paint, it's nicely applied with only a few inclusions and a few runs on the lowers. 14-inch Pontiac Rally II wheels are on all 4 corners wrapped in raised white letter Dayton Daytona SR radials.

Interior
Take a look inside this A-Body's airy cockpit and you'll find a snazzy correct and original black interior. Front and center a straight and crack free dash wears a black padded topper and black steel sandwiching fresh wood applique and original gauges. On the floor, an original T-handle shifter sits between the two beautifully sculpted bucket front seats and sculpted center console. At the sides of those seats, stainless trimmed door panels hang LeMans emblems above clean hardware and pliable armrests. Below those panels, clean carpet frames chrome trimmed foot pedals in front of black rubber Pontiac logoed floor mats. In front of the driver, what looks like to be the original 3 spoke black plastic steering wheel spins around a Pontiac branded central badge. Behind the passengers, an original trunk hides a correct speckle finish paint and full-size spare tire as well as a bumper jack.

Drivetrain
A numbers matching 265hp 350ci V8 steel blue painted block with steel blue valve covers rests comfortable awaiting new challengers. This mill is topped by a single 2-barrel carburetor and the correct and original 2-speed Powerglide automatic is behind the mill and shifts through the gears flawlessly. On the back is a 10-bolt rear axle.

Undercarriage
Give this car a lift and we are met with independent front suspension and 4-link rear suspension. A patinaed black painted frame provides the backbone for the factory undercoated solid steel flooring and the only surface rust we note is on the untreated components. Power drum brakes all around bring things to a quick halt. Dual exhaust with stock style mufflers snakes its way from the mill back through a clean and rust free frame, floor pans, rockers, and inner fenders.

Drive-Ability
We had some fun test driving this well preserved car on our test track. Despite it being warm we stayed nice and cool thanks to the AC pumping out the cold air and it had snappy acceleration, good handling, and bias free panic stopping. It handled very well, and all functions save for the radioworked as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

Overall a very nice example of the 1969 Pontiac LeMans. It runs great, shifts smoothly, and is a looker to boot. 1 owner, meticulous care and a numbers matching V8 engine...This is the way fun is going to be!
