Vehicle Description
Chassis No. 4J27K513864
The 1964 Mercury Comet showcased a dramatic redesign with its
smoother flowing lines, sharing a compact unibody platform with the
Ford Falcon. Available in a sporty two-door sedan, a practical
four-door sedan, and a versatile four-door station wagon, the Comet
catered to a diverse group. The Cyclone trim offered exclusively as
a two-door hardtop coupe, represented the pinnacle of performance.
Buyers had the choice between a 170 cu-in inline six-cylinder
engine or the new, thrilling 289 cu-in V8 engine delivering 210
horsepower. Transmission options included two manual choices or the
"Merc-o-Matic" automatic.
This 1964 Mercury Comet features the thrilling 289 cu-in V8 engine
paired with a smooth three-speed "Merc-o-Matic" automatic
transmission. Restored between 2013 and 2014, this Comet received a
complete engine rebuild, with the body soda blasted to bare metal
before being refinished in Polar White. The interior was refinished
with vibrant red accents and white vinyl seats. Notable
enhancements include factory-type under-dash air conditioning,
power front disc brakes, and upgraded 14-inch Mustang wheels. Other
features include a dash-mounted tachometer, power steering, AM
radio, and a center console with a column-mounted gear selector.
Additional details include chrome bumpers, front bucket seats, a
door-activated dome light, a locking glove box, and dual chrome
exterior side view mirrors.
Accompanied by a comprehensive binder of receipts and a photo album
documenting the restoration, this 1964 Mercury Comet Cyclone
remains a delight to enthusiasts with its higher level of
refinement paired with a gutsy high-performance V8.
