Recalling the sporting and luxurious character of the "Letter Series" 300 models offered by Chrysler during the 1950s and 1960s, the Crossfire was produced for just 2004-08. A combination of fresh new styling, proven Mercedes-Benz mechanicals, and high-quality construction by the renowned Karmann coachworks in Germany, the Crossfire was the first new Chrysler production model following the 1998 Daimler-Chrysler merger. Many of its styling cues also inspired a bold new era for design at Chrysler during the 2000s and beyond, including concept cars, styling exercises, and new models, particularly in terms of frontal styling.Underneath its gorgeous skin, the Crossfire shared the R170 Mercedes-Benz platform, including about 80% of its mechanical components. As Mercedes-Benz shifted to production of the R171 SLK models, the Crossfire was built at Karmann using the original R170 production lines. The Crossfire's unique styling and upper bodyside styling inspired the 'Crossfire' name, particularly the character lines which cross from concave to convex forms as one looks from front to rear. A wide, down swept "boattail" rear treatment pays stylistic homage to the great Bugatti and Talbot-Lago models of the Classic Era, plus of course, the daring Chrysler Airflow of the mid-1930s. Credit for the Crossfire's styling goes to Chrysler stylist Eric Stoddard, who designed the breathtaking 2001 Crossfire concept car, with refinements for production readiness penned by Andrew Dyson. Production commenced in 2003 for a 2004 sales launch. All 2004 Crossfires were sleek, low-profile Coupes, designated as 'Limited,' equipped with a wide array of standard features and amenities included. Based on an extremely stiff chassis and body structure, the Crossfire features seating for two ahead of a substantial rear bulkhead housing the standard Infinity stereo subwoofer and speaker, plus storage pockets. The upper surface of the center console, shifter knob, and even the headliner echo the raised longitudinal character line to the roof of the car and the stamped lines adorning the Crossfire's hood. Staggered 18-inch front, and 19-inch rear, tires and wide, ultra-low profile performance tires and 4-wheel disc brakes were standard equipment. When the Crossfire was new, factory-advertised performance credentials included 0-60 mph acceleration under 7.0 seconds and a 14-second quarter-mile, with 1.1g on the handling skidpad all worthy of many much more expensive competitors.Sporting the driver-preferred 6-speed manual gearbox, this first-year Crossfire Limited Coupe from the inaugural 2004 model year is a fabulous offering with just two prior owners and 15,400 original miles, supported by the accompanying Carfax vehicle-history report. Power is delivered by the M170 Mercedes-Benz SOHC 3.2L V-6 engine rated at 215 horsepower. Passenger amenities are comprehensive, including A/C, cruise control, an Infinity AM/FM CD stereo, anti-theft, and power brakes, steering, seats, windows, and locks. Offered with limited prior ownership, low mileage, and equipped with the 6-speed manual transmission, this exceptionally original and attractive 2004 Chrysler Crossfire is immensely desirable with fast-rising collector interest to boot.
