Following the 1961-63 "Bullet Bird," the fourth-generation 1964-66 Ford Thunderbird was informally known as the "Flair Bird" or "Glamour Bird" and featured handsome, all-new styling. Some innovations intended for the new Thunderbird line were delayed for the launch year and only reached production in 1965. Among them were new front disc brakes made standard by 1965 and eye-catching sequential rear turn-signal indicators, which faced approval delays in certain states. Sales remained strong, despite significant internal competition from the newly introduced Mustang. As always, the Thunderbird offered plenty of power and delivered effortless cruising with the standard 4-barrel 390 CI V-8 engine uprated to 315 horsepower for 1966.The new Thunderbirds were very well received at launch for 1964, a landmark year when the entire Ford model line earned Motor Trend magazine "Car of the Year" honors. Buyers enthusiastically agreed, with the new Thunderbird models generating a strong sales bump to 92,465 units in all for 1964, comprising 60,552 Hardtops, 22,715 formal Landau models, and 9,198 Convertibles.Offered with just an approximate 66,519 original miles at the time of writing, this outstanding survivor retains the all original White paint finish over a Blue-upholstered interior featuring front bucket seats, and aircraft-style dash and console, and tilt-Away steering. Luxurious features and passenger amenities include A/C, tinted glass, a power-adjustable seat, power-operated windows, and a pushbutton AM radio. A 300-horsepower, Z-Code 390 CI V-8 engine delivers ample power with great-sounding dual exhaust in concert is an automatic transmission. Power brakes and power steering deliver relaxed cruising.
