The 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air was the culmination of the iconic
"Tri-Five" era, a three-year period from 1955 to 1957 that produced
some of the most beloved American cars ever made. The 1957 model,
in particular, epitomized 1950s automotive design and represented
the pinnacle of this golden age for Chevrolet.
Chevrolet's 1957 brochure heralded the Bel Air's exciting new
looks, with "zippy new power," "luxurious new interiors," and a
"revolutionary new Turboglide" automatic transmission. The Bel
Air's redesigned exterior was instantly recognizable by its
distinctive gold anodized trim, full-disc wheel covers, and a
rakish sweep of chrome. The redesigned front end featured a bold
combination grille/bumper, emphasizing massiveness and width, while
redesigned fenders pushed the headlamps outward for a more
aggressive stance. At the rear, the classic chrome-surrounded,
fin-with-afterburner taillights created an unforgettable profile -
