Vehicle Description
1998 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible
The Corvette crossed flag logo originally started out by using an
American Flag, crossed with a checkered flag. Federal law prohibits
the use of the flag in any advertising, so they had to come up with
another flag. Chevrolet being of French origin, they decided to use
the French symbol for peace, the Fleur-de-lis, with the checkered
flag. Over the years it has gone through many iterations, but the
basic principles still exist.
For consignment, here at Classic Auto Mall is a 1998 Corvette
convertible. With over 40 plus Corvette models here representing
nearly every year, this is the only 1998 model in our vast
inventory! A nice clean recently serviced example, with 67,910
title verified original miles, a beautiful red exterior, pristine
canvas convertible top in contrasting black and a snappy black
leather interior, it was played with then neatly put away for the
next time, not unlike a favorite toy!
Exterior
The factory applied Torch Red over fiberglass is draped over the
high-performance chassis of this car with the only flaws being a
few scuffs and scrapes on the lowers of the body. Hidden
headlights, and integrated bumpers provide the aero package that
can whisk you down the highway with just a touch of the throttle. A
black canvas convertible top, which functions flawlessly, albeit
manually, is in very nice condition, and has a clear glass rear
window. This style Corvette wins the award for best rear styling
with the round embedded taillights and the quad exhaust piercing
out the center of the integrated rear bumper. 17" 5-spoke polished
wheels are upfront and 18" in the rear and are shod in staggered
width rubber for a perfectly sedate but aggressive look.
Interior
A swing of the doors and we have excellent black covering the door
panels which include a large Bose speaker which is one of many
within the driver's compartment. Power windows, mirrors, locks and
seats with 2 memory positions are present. Speaking of the seats,
they are black leather and show a beautiful patina with some slight
folds which give them character. These are high back tuck and roll
buckets, and they grab you when you sit down. An AM/FM/CD player is
inset into the dash and surrounds you with a wonderful Bose sound.
The instrument cluster is very clean and contains a series of round
analog gauges staring at you to keep you informed of the vitals.
Blackcarpet is on the floors and is in good condition with no
stains. Moving behind the seats is a small stowage area that can
serve to hold your items when the top is up and holds the manual
folding top when in the lowered position. A shout out to the trunk
which shows the original color of charcoal gray.
Drivetrain
A 5.7 Liter 345hp sequential fuel injected V8 is under the hood and
is extremely clean. This is connected to a Tremec T56 6-speed
manual transmission. A traction control system has been added in
from the factory and the rear axle ratio weighs in at a 3.42
limited slip ratio.
Undercarriage
Near showroom would best describe this undercarriage, with no drips
even nearly present, which would lead us to believe this car was
seldom if ever driven in bad weather, including a rain shower. C5
Corvette suspension is on all 4 corners, which consists of an
independent SLA system with forged aluminum control arms and a
transverse leaf spring in the front and for the rear an independent
5 link arrangement with another transverse leaf spring with the
optional Magnetic Ride Control. Factory dual exhaust is on with OEM
mufflers for the exhale. Just beautiful underneath.
Drive-Ability
I slipped in and enjoyed the comfortable inviting black leather and
cranked up the awesome stereo before turning the engine over.
Finally, I did, and it kicked right over, idled smooth as silk, and
with the stereo on I barely knew it was running. Popping it into
1st, it smoothly accelerated and just kept going. Plenty of power
and handles like it's on rails with all functions working as they
should. Needless to say, I was glad I fastened my seat belt, mostly
because I did not want to listen to the constant nagging from my
dear beloved crack decoder that I was not buckled! While Classic
Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time
of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be
working at the time of your purchase.
Relatively low mileage, and plenty of TLC would sum this "Vette"
up. Tons of power conveniences, a great color combination and
everything adjustable to get it just right for any driver. Good
power, and awesome handling. What more could one want?
