Gateway Classic Cars Houston Showroom is proud to present this 1972
Chevrolet El Camino SS Tribute. This 1972 Chevrolet El Camino
Tribute is a deep dark machine and it even has a solid big block
under the hood to back it all up. And as you look over all the
details, you can see a classic that was built for all around
enjoyment. The dark color is pure intimidation, but there's more
going on here, The black paint has a glossy finish that likes to
radiate in the sunshine. It's laid over well-fitting body panels,
so you get a crisp look at the iconic sheet metal. Bright bumpers,
complete trim and doors that close with confidence give this an
overall look of quality. And the contrasting white racing stripes
are painted on the hood. So it not only reminds you that tis one is
a speedy machine. The interior follow the exteriors lead and
delivers a dark style and driver-ready package. It feels like a
proper driver's classic with high-back bucket seats, an DD steering
wheel, a title column, and a center console with a horseshoe
shifter. And the readouts have been fully updated with crisp white
faced gauges in the dash and the essential auxiliary trio neatly
mounted underneath. The aggressive style continues on upgrades like
the cowl hood, hood pins, SS grille, and correct badging. There are
valuable details. like the spray-in liner paint protecting the bed
with the chrome and black ridge stripes to add luster, and a
equalizer hitch on the rear. It all makes for a sharp looking
street machine with an overall style that looks good without being
a museum piece. Under the hood is a well-done 454 cubic-inch V8
upgrade. It looks great with a bold block and matching painted
finned valve covers. We especially like to see the air grabber that
seals to the fresh cowl induction hood. It's part of a package that
includes Holley Street Avenger four barrel carburetor and Holley
heat shield with an aluminum intake manifold to let this mighty
motor inhale better. This makes a robust setup that fires up
eagerly and runs great. And the three-speed turbo automatic
transmission shifts smoothly to give you a cruiser feeling. Plus
the power steering, power brakes, front disc's, and wide B F
Goodrich radial T/A's are all there to make this classic muscle
car/truck an all around driver. A new aluminum radiator with duel
thermal controlled fans has been added. The dash and dash wiring
have been replaced. A right side matching outside mirror has been
added. The electric brake booster was replaced with a vacuum pump
booster. New seat belts and shoulder straps have been updated.
Complete R134 A/C system including compressor and evaporator has
been upgraded from under hood to dash controls, dash vents, and all
hoses and fan. New American Racing Wheels were installed and much
easier to maintain balancing than the older series Cragers. An
AM/FM radio has been installed, however no speakers have been
added. Due to the high roller camshaft, you wouldn't be able to
hear it anyway. The new wiring harness behind the dash makes the
lights and gauges operate as desired. The speedometer cable has
been replaced and synchronized to correct the speed display. The
NK4 steering wheel has been replaced with an SS Steering wheel. The
trio gauges under the dash have been added to enhance the dash
instruments with the same white background. A full-sized spare in
installed behind the passenger seat and mounted to a factory rally
wheel. This El Camino is truly an amazing daily driver or a show
vehicle, whichever you choose. The awesome sound of acceleration is
defining. It handles and rides like a new vehicle. A head-turner,
thumbs up at every corner. An easy keeper to say the least.
