Vehicle Description
This 1936 Pierce-Arrow 1601 sedan is one of only 787 built for the
model year and one of 49 known examples left in existence. The
engine boasts a 385/150hp inline-8 engine paired with a 3-speed
manual transmission with overdrive and freewheeling. It features a
solid front axle and live rear axle with semi-elliptic leaf springs
and 4-wheel vacuum-assisted mechanical drum brakes. It sits on a
139-inch wheelbase with ionic-spoke wheels and whitewall tires. The
exterior features a black body crowned with the "crouching archer"
hood ornament. This 1936 Pierce-Arrow restyling included a very
early version of quad headlamps, the main ones outboard atop the
fender tips in typical Pierce fashion, and smaller driving lamps on
posts attached to the radiator shell. Inside, to the left of the
steering column, a gauge combines the functions of fuel level,
water temperature, oil pressure and an ammeter. One fascinating
fillip was the presence of two bud-sized lamps - their lenses cut
in gem-like facets - between the main instrument dials. **TITLED AS
