Vehicle Description
1966 Morgan Plus 4 Drophead Coupe
Chassis Number: 6280
Engine Number: CT66761ME
This 1966 Plus 4 is one of only 450 Drophead Coupes built during
the eighteen-year production run that was predominately two and
four seat roadsters. The Drophead featured a more substantial top,
side curtains and a more luxurious interior.
This Plus 4 was manufactured in 1966 and was fitted from new with
the capable and desirable TR4A powerplant and front disc brakes.
This longtime California car received extensive mechanical
refurbishment in the early 2000s. Work included an engine rebuild
with new pistons, liners, bearings, new camshaft, new valves, a
rebuilt head, and rebuilt carburetors. The radiator was overhauled,
an overflow bottle was added, and a new clutch and pressure plate
fitted. The flywheel was resurfaced, a new steering box fitted, and
the brakes rebuilt including the calipers, wheel cylinders, and
rotors. During this time, for the sake of safety, dual master
cylinders were also fitted. The suspension was also rebuilt as
required, including kingpins, bushings, shocks, and springs. New
Dayton wheels with stainless steel rims were fitted and the chrome
renewed as well.
In 2008 the Morgan was sold and moved North to Seattle where the
next caretaker continued with the restoration efforts by renewing
the black paint, replacing the interior with black leather,
installing a new windscreen, and starter. In 2009 the engine was
resealed and new rod bearing fitted along with a new alternator and
fuel pump. By this time, all mechanical and cosmetics had been
restored and in the years that followed this Morgan received
occasional use and proper maintenance that continued through to the
present.
On the road, the engine feels strong, the gearbox is a delight, and
the Morgan flows confidently through traffic and feels like a more
modern car.
