GR Auto Gallery is pleased to present this rare 1969 Checker
Marathon Station Wagon for your consideration. As one of just 286
A12W wagons produced for the model year, this vehicle offers a
unique opportunity to own a piece of automotive history. Originally
sold by Crain-Hillis Checker Motor Sales in Portland, Oregon, this
Marathon spent the majority of its life in Oregon before going to
California for the past few years. The Fulton Blue exterior (paint
code 62) adds a vintage touch to the wagon's iconic boxy
silhouette, while period-correct design elements like the tail
light housings with three reflectors on each side are a nod to its
distinct Checker heritage.
Under the hood, the factory-optional 327ci V8, sourced from General
Motors, remains untouched and provides smooth power delivery
through a dual-range automatic transmission. Paired with a 3.31:1
rear axle, the powertrain offers a smooth performance, making it a
capable cruiser. Equipped with power steering and brakes, driving
this Checker is an easy-going experience, ideal for long trips or
just a day out on the town.
Inside, this Checker stands out with its factory-optional bucket
seats, a rare feature for the model year, as only 17 Checkers
across all body styles were equipped with this configuration in
1969. The tinted glass all around offers added comfort, keeping the
cabin cool and protecting the vintage upholstery from sun exposure.
The original dashboard houses a functional aftermarket cruise
control system, a thoughtful addition that enhances long-distance
driving. This Checker also comes with air conditioning, a feature
that adds to the overall comfort and usability.
From the exterior's light scrapes and touched-up paint areas to the
preserved engine bay, this Marathon tells a story of consistent
care and use. Whether for weekend drives or as a distinctive
collector's piece, this 1969 Checker Marathon Wagon represents a
rare opportunity to own a vehicle with vintage character and
enduring charm.
