Following the initial series of cars built in Gmünd, Porsche brought 356 production into Germany with the 356 1100 and later 1300 variants. For 1952, the company released the more powerful 1500, which coincided with a series of updates to the car. New bumpers, a curved, one-piece glass windshield, and, in 1953, a fully synchronized transmission were some of the most notable changes. As ever, the newer car proved more comfortable than the preceding model.
By 1955, with the release of the 356 A looming, Porsche began branding 356s intended for the American market as "Continental". This was largely due to Max Hoffman, a major official importer of the brand, desiring to sell a car with a name instead of a designation. Unfortunately, Ford was quick to threaten legal action and the name was dropped in favor of "European" for the 1956 model year. Today, the one-year-only 356 Continental is one of the most intriguing 'Pre-A' models for its rarity and pleasant blend of luxury and performance.
The incredible 1955 Porsche 356 'Pre-A' 1500 Continental Cabriolet featured here is finished in stunning Black over a Dark Green leather interior with a Black folding convertible top. This magnificent motorcar was subject to a multi-year, show-quality restoration performed by marque experts in Italy. Upon completion, this exquisite 356 was issued a Classic Vehicle certificate by Automotoclub Storico Italy. It was then imported to the US, where it won multiple awards including a class award at the coveted LaJolla Concours d'Elegance. Today, this investment-grade Porsche remains virtually new in every aspect and is among one of the finest examples to come to market in years. We are proud to offer this stunning 356 Continental Cabriolet to the most demanding collector, investor, or enthusiast who desires to own one of the very best at an investment price!
