For Sale: 1973 Mercedes-Benz 280C - Impeccable Condition and Low
Mileage
We are excited to present this exceptional 1973 Mercedes-Benz 280C
for sale. Purchased new from Motor Werks of Barrington, Illinois,
by Edith Paulman, this car changed hands in 1988 with just 55,000
miles on the clock. Since then, it has traveled only 12,000 miles
under the careful maintenance of the owner's son, who operates a
mechanic shop. The vehicle comes with a comprehensive documentation
package, including the original Ownership Plate, Window Sticker,
Maintenance Booklet, Manuals, and Broadcast Sheets. This 280C is a
stunning example of Mercedes-Benz engineering and presents a unique
opportunity to own a meticulously cared-for classic.
Exterior:
This 280C boasts a straight and accident-free body. The paint
shines brilliantly with only minor blemishes. There are a few small
rust areas, primarily on lower edges near the wheel openings, which
is common for this model. Some repairs are noted on the rear lower
edges of the quarters. The car is otherwise structurally sound, and
you can choose to address the rust spots or enjoy it as-is. The
glass, trim, lights, and hardware are all in excellent condition,
with great panel fitment and glossy paint. The wheels are in great
shape, and the tires, while showing some dry cracking, still have
plenty of tread.
Interior:
The interior is nearly impeccable. All switches and features
function correctly, though the Becker Europa radio powers up but
currently doesn't pick up a signal. The original seats, carpets,
and mats are in fantastic condition. The headliner is clean, and
all dome lights work properly. The dashboard and gauges are in
excellent shape, and everything functions as it should. The A/C fan
powers up but does not blow cold; it likely needs a recharge or
maintenance.
Underhood/Underbody:
Under the hood is the original 6-cylinder DOHC engine paired with a
floor-shifted automatic transmission. The car runs exceptionally
well, idles smoothly, and shows no signs of smoke or internal
engine noises. There are no concerning leaks, and all hoses and
parts are in good condition. The underbody features a solid frame
and body mounts, with only a small soft area in the driver's foot
pan-non-structural and not a major concern. There has been some
repair to the spare tire well due to low-point rust. Overall, the
underside is complete and ready for safe, reliable driving.
On the Road:
This 280C is a joy to drive. The 4-wheel disc brakes perform
confidently, and the car accelerates smoothly with crisp, immediate
shifts. It offers a fantastic driving experience, making it a
pleasure to cruise.
In conclusion, this 1973 Mercedes-Benz 280C is a remarkable blend
of classic style, meticulous care, and dependable performance. With
its low mileage, comprehensive documentation, and excellent overall
condition, it offers a unique opportunity for enthusiasts and
collectors alike. Whether you're looking for a stunning addition to
your collection or a well-maintained classic car for everyday
enjoyment, this 280C delivers on all fronts. Don't miss your chance
