The third Mercedes-Benz to wear the “SL” badge, the W113 generation SL-Class was show to the public in the summer of 1963. The new 230 SL was engineered to get closer to the performance of the racing-derived 300 SL in comparison to the attractive but somewhat tepid-performing 190 SL, but still offer the comfort and safety buyers desired. A fuel-injected 2.3L Inline-6, later enlarged to 2.5L and, eventually, 2.8L, proved more than adequate for the task. Coupled with iconic styling and a unique, slightly concave “Pagoda” hardtop, the W113 SL quickly won the hearts of period celebrities.

As always, Mercedes engineers strove to improve the car. In December 1967, the 280 SL replaced the 250 SL. Its upgraded engine promised increased performance, while interior appointments were finer than ever. While most were equipped with a 4-speed automatic, a manual transmission was still offered for those who wished for a comfortable sports car versus a sporty cruiser. These cars have become increasingly desirable over the years, with values of high-quality examples growing dramatically. Between this and their endlessly enjoyable driving experience, W113 SL-Classes are superb vehicles for any discerning collector or enthusiast.

The impressive 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280 SL Roadster featured here is finished in stunning Dark Red over Cognac leather with a Brown folding convertible top in addition to its matching hardtop. This exquisite motorcar was subject to a multi-year, no-expense-spared restoration and is ready to be shown or enjoyed. In addition to its wealth of standard amenities, this investment-grade Mercedes-Benz comes equipped with a seldom-seen electric sunroof in its removable hardtop, allowing for a truly unique driving experience. Because of this car's remarkable condition, I personally the investment potential of this great classic will grow beyond your imagination. We proudly offer this remarkable 280 SL to the most demanding collector, investor, or enthusiast who desires to own one of the best at an investment price.
