With an estimated 310 produced, the Porsche 356 B Carrera 2 is one of the rarest variations of the model. While standard 356s made do with a pushrod Flat-4, the Carreras received a special four-cam motor designed for racing. With 130hp in production trim, the cars were significantly quicker than the base model which cost roughly half as much. Bespoke disc brakes, extra cooling, and a special rear exhaust valence are some of the few tells that set the Carrera 2 apart visually. Naturally, the Carrera 2s were instantly collectible and offer some of the finest driving experiences of any 356.
Offered in its factory color scheme of Ruby Red over Black leatherette and Grey corduroy inserts, this marvelous 1962 Porsche 356 B 2000 Carrera 2 GS Sunroof Coupe showcases the pinnacle of Porsche's development during the early 1960s. This incredible machine was delivered to its Dr. Wolfgang Zerna, a university professor located in Hanover, Germany, in July of 1962. One of only 27 lucky owners of a Carrera 2 produced with a factory sunroof, Dr. Zerna's 356 was also optioned with ventilated chrome wheels and a chrome horn ring on its wood-rimmed steering wheel. By the late 1960s, the Carrera 2 was imported to San Fransisco by Seth Anderson, where it spent over 37 years before being sold to Check Lawson in Dallas in 2008.
Mr. Lawson commissioned a no-expense-spared, award-winning restoration. Renowned specialists at Jacques LeFriant performed a complete engine rebuild to factory specifications, ensuring the car presented as new. Upon completion, the car notably won several prestigious awards, including the Palmetto award at the Hilton Head Concours d'Elegance and five best of class awards. In 2016, Bonhams sold this 356 at their Scottsdale auction for $627,000. Due to this 356 Carrera 2's unique combination of provenance, restoration quality, and historical significance, we believe this Porsche's investment potential will grow beyond your imagination. We proudly offer this sensational Porsche to the most astute collector, investor, or enthusiast who aspires to own a standout piece of automotive history at an investment price.
