Vehicle Description
On the Mt. Rushmore of Mustang tuners, it would seem obvious that
one, Carroll Shelby, would be an automatic lock for a spot. The
more modern Pony Car whisperer would have to be Steve Saleen, who
does not like being called a tuner since his cars have their VINs
and have been made in-house for some time. But, one name that
sometimes gets lost in the stable of performance companies is Jack
Roush. One look at this 2007 Ford Mustang Roush 427R, however, and
you're not likely to forget the name ever again. From its
Boss-style side stripes, Roush-specific hood, or Roush four-piece
body kit, which includes a hood scoop, front fascia, chin spoiler,
and rear deck wing, there is no denying this a Pony Car of a
different breed.
We find a striking set of two-tone bucket seats with Jack Roush's
signature on each headrest. That same name again appears above the
glove compartment, while the Roush name appears again on the
upgraded cueball shift handle. Old-school analog HVAC controls
complement an upgraded digital infotainment system. The most
exciting part of the interior might be the odometer, which proudly
displays just 72,672 miles on it, leaving plenty of life to enjoy
carefree.
You might expect a car named 427R to have a seven-liter V-8 under
its hood, and understandably so. However, Roush did not name this
car based on its displacement; more on that in a moment. Instead,
we find a 'Roushcharged' and intercooled 4.6-liter SOHC V-8 that
utilized an Eaton M90 Roots-style supercharger to create, yup, you
guessed it, 427 hp (and 391 lb-ft of torque) at the flywheel. Power
is funneled through a believed original five-speed manual
transmission before being sent to the 8.8-inch rear end housing
3.55 locking differential gears.
This 2007 Ford Mustang Rousch 427R stands out even among the year's
Roush models with specific Roush dampers, front and rear springs,
and anti-roll bars. An "off-road" exhaust was an option added after
the vehicle's initial sale to avoid violating the 80-decibel
handshake deal auto manufacturers had at the time.
