The 1969 Ford Torino Talladega is a legendary American muscle car
that was specifically designed for NASCAR racing. Named after the
Talladega Superspeedway in Alabama, this limited-production vehicle
was built on the Torino Cobra Sportroof chassis. An aerodynamic
body, a 6" longer nose, flush-mounted grille and redesigned rocker
panels helped improve the overall performance of the Torino
Talladega in competition. In order to fulfill NASCAR's racing
requirement for street-legal production, Ford needed to deliver a
limited number of Torino Talladega models for sale to the public.
Just over 750 street-legal models (including proto-types) were said
to have been manufactured in 1969, but only in three colors - Royal
Maroon, Presidential Blue and Wimbledon White. Of those, 258 were
Royal Maroon. Today these street-legal Torino Talladegas are highly
sought-after collector items. (From the viewpoint of a Collector,
we currently have for purchase one Talladega in each of the three
colors, a rare 'matched set' if you will.)
This 1969 Torino Talladega is a rare, carefully restored example of
a serious Ford performance machine from the '60s. The exterior was
reshot in original Royal Maroon. Accents include a matte black hood
and Torino GT Argent wheels w/caps-rings that mount Kelly radial
tires. The black Broadcloth/Vinyl interior is also in outstanding
condition. The Talladega was factory equipped with the 428ci Cobra
Jet V8 engine, known for its impressive performance and
reliability. The street-legal engine featured cast-iron block/heads
along with a forged steel crankshaft and connecting rods. It
incorporated a dual-plane intake manifold, high-lift camshaft and
larger valves. The Cobra Jet was also equipped with a clutch fan
and oil-cooler. With a compression ratio of 10.6:1, the factory
Cobra Jet was very conservatively rated at 335 horsepower and
440lb/ft of torque. Based on available data, this 428 has been
built for additional performance. It is now equipped with Edelbrock
aluminum heads, Edelbrock Performer intake and Holley dual-feed
carburetor. There are also receipts for the internal machine work
performed. Other factory drivetrain enhancements of the Talladega
included a heavy-duty C-6 Cruise-O-Matic transmission and 9"
nodular differential w/3.25:1 gearing. The chassis is equipped with
power steering, power disc/drum brakes w/dual master, HD suspension
components and staggered shocks. This Talladega is a valuable piece
of American automotive history and its legacy lives on as a symbol
of a bygone era of motorsport excellence. ALL VEHICLES SOLD "AS
IS".
