For Sale: 1964 Ford Fairlane 500 in Morgantown, Pennsylvania

Vehicle Description

1964 Ford Fairlane 500 2 Door Hardtop

The Ford Fairlane Thunderbolt was a limited-production drag-racing version of the ordinary Ford Fairlane made for just the 1964 model year. Only 100 units were made, 49 of these were four-speed manuals while 51 were automatics - and its performance was enough for Ford to win the NHRA Super Stock Championship for the same year. The Ford Fairlane was a light car and fitted with the 7.0-liter V8s with dual four-barrel carburetors that usually went into the Galaxie - it became a powder keg. This worked because while the Galaxie engine was perfect, the car was too heavy to be successfully raced. The intermediate Ford Fairlane had no such compunctions and raced to the end as a winner.

For consignment, now looking an awful lot like the Ford Fairlane Thunderbolt, and with only a mere 100 of these produced, a very hard to find original version. Our version has been painstakingly restored, fitted with a hot shot mill with lots of goodies bolted on, and plenty of cosmetic work then bathed in black cherry paint. Let's act like it's Washington's birthday and "pop" the clutch on this cherry machine, and delve deeply into this beautiful build of a 1964 Ford Fairlane.

Exterior
Many square feet of beautifully massaged steel panels which are straight as arrows and have well minded gaps adorn the exterior. These have a Glasurit Black Cherry Metallic Pearl paint, base coat and clear coat with an epoxy primer as a starter and is anything but the pits when it comes to fit and finish. Gleaming chrome and stainless-steel trimmings in the form of trim spears, egg crate grille, dual headlights, rechromed bumpers and fab window trimmings, and even a b-pillar accenting panel give us the 64 shape of the Fairlane. There is a Crites fiberglass teardrop hood looking lots like the Thunderbolt of 64 yore. On back more jet age styling with the thruster-esque taillights, a nice aluminum trim panel with some badging, another pristine bumper and dual pipes peeking out from below. This machine presents with a beautiful stance, which is highlighted by 15-inch Cragar chrome 5 spokes on all 4 corners.

Interior
Opening the doors reveals some smooth black vinyl mixing with lots of trim, some faux stitched panels. pulls and cranks and more Fairlane 500 badging. Dual front low back buckets which present with tuck and roll inserts and smooth bolsters have chromed trimmings for their surrounds with the drivers chair power adjustable. A rear bench shows as an original seat, and is the same pattern as the redone buckets, but this chair has white piping as a highlighter. Upfront, an original gauge cluster with a deep set trio of round gauges nicely aged to a mellow cream sits within a curved aluminum center panel and a black padded top and black painted upper and lower. The original steering wheel, well preserved, fronts this dash and sports aftermarket black faced gauges hanging off of either side of the column for amps and oil pressure. On the top dead center is a Sun Super Tachometer 2 neatly mounted, and below a neatly mounted Select Tire dealer installed A/C unit. Below is a Hurst competition shifter floating within a deep sea of pristine black carpeting. Above is an off white and very tight vinyl headliner. This is a radio delete car.

Drivetrain
A flip of the hood and within a completely restored engine bay is a fully tricked out mill which started out with a base of a 5.0 liter Mustang high output roller motor and now displaces 347 consignor stated cubic inches. Within its confines is a SCAT 4340 forged steel crank and connecting rods, Trick flow forged power pistons, with Mahle performance piston rings, Clevite rod main bearings, and within Edelbrock aluminum heads, Harland Sharp roller rockers. An Edelbrock Torker intake with a 4-barrel Edelbrock carb sits atop. On back is a rebuilt Borg Warner Iron case T-10 4-speed transmission which throws power to the Ford 8-inch 3.25 Trac-Loc rear axle.

Undercarriage
Plenty of attention to this structure of the undercarriage was paid, and is now paying off with headers, and H pipe config. and Flowmaster mufflers. New A arms and coil springs are all around and throw in some traction bars for the rear. Drum brakes all reworked are on all 4 corners.

Drive-Ability
The fruits of this restorer's labors all come together for an amazing thrill ride with all working perfectly, great acceleration, bias free braking, and good handling. All in working perfectly condition.

A very special build with lots of attention to detail and looking much like the Thunderbolt, but with a very modern twist for the power plant. Beautiful paint, and any excellent example from Henry's estate named Fairlane right out of 1964!
