For Sale: 1987 AM General M1038 in Boiling Springs, South Carolina

Vehicle Description

Beautifully restored 1987 USMC HMMWV

This is a factory M1038 converted to M1026. It has a 6.2L naturally aspirated V8 diesel engine with a 3L80 transmission coupled to a high/low transfer case. This HMMWV has been thoroughly restored and refurbished.

The HMMWV includes a fully functional hatch and turret system with weapon carrier assembly. This is not an aftermarket hatchback but, instead, the real thing. The bodywork is in great condition as it would have been delivered to the military in 1987 with some very minor evidence of use such as a scratch on the hood from washing, a small crack on the hood near the right headlight and a small crack on one of the X-doors. Window glass is in good condition with signs of wear. All lights, turn signals and marker lights work. The paint has been redone to spec with the proper colors in the proper places. The weapon carrier assembly looks wonderful with the decommissioned M60 and ammo box. This M60 is available to the new owner but not included with the vehicle. This HMMWV has 2 civilian 12 volt batteries under the seat with a cut-off switch to save the batteries. It does have a rear hitch receiver and 12 volt system to run any trailer that you might like to tow. There is a cut-off switch for the 12 volt system as well. Does have a 12 volt cigarette lighter for charging a device.

There is a complete radio system that includes the RT524 radio, loud speaker, microphone, antenna, and blast shield for the base. All refurbished or new interior pieces including NATO green high back seats with two-way adjustable drivers system. It has a fully insulated floor system. All gauges function as they should and has the original speedometer/odometer. The odometer reads 17,325 but also has another speedometer/odometer that has 461 miles for a total mileage of 17,786 since its birth. The interior also includes 3 point seat belts, rubber head pads for driver and A-driver, fire extinguisher, first aid kit, all data plates and stickers located as they should be, dual direction shocks for the rear hatch, heater and defroster. All 5 tires are military tires and have very good tread on them. The HMMWV has been serviced and maintained well throughout its life. This HMMWV has a full fording kit with snorkel and exhaust stack but also comes with a short extension exhaust pipe by the rear tire. Ballistic grills for the top of the hood are in place.

This HMMWV comes with all spare parts both new and used. Brackets, braces, struts, D-rings, bulbs, gaskets etc. Comes with a full set of manuals and parts lists. This HMMWV also comes with pieces needed to make it into a 2-seat truck configuration excluding the top. It has been kept in a climate controlled garage. There are some minor leaks - a small transmission fluid leak from the rear main and an engine oil leak at the rate of about 1 drop per 5 days.

This also comes with a 24 volt slave receptacle charger to keep the batteries fresh.

All paperwork available since birth. Bought from Quantico in 2007 and titled in Connecticut then brought to South Carolina where it has been since then. The file includes receipts and documentation from transfer from the military until now. This is a great looking, great running, and great example of what a HMMWV should be.

The buyer is responsible for shipping quotes and arrangements, insurance and all other related charges. This HMMWV comes with no warranties expressed or implied. Please check with your local county and state for titling requirements. I have a South Carolina title and it was previously titled in Connecticut.
