Vehicle Description
This 1927 Cadillac Phaeton is a custom extended 150 inch wheelbase
dual cowl convertible and is finished in red and black. Labeled a
'Picnic car', it is reported that only 7 of these were produced. It
was used at Glacier National Park and in 1934, President Franklin
Delano Roosevelt toured Glacier national park in this Phaeton. He
sat on the right side of the rear seat joined by Secret Service
personnel, James Roosevelt, and Montana Governor Cooney. It has
room for 7 people along with storage in the rear compartments. A
special compartment in the rear allows storage of cold drinks! Dual
side mount spare tires and chrome front and rear bumpers. It is
powered by the original 314 cubic inch flathead V8 producing 85
horsepower. Paired with a 3 speed manual transmission, this 4700
pound Cadillac is capable of speeds up to 70 mph! It has crankcase
ventilation, 4 wheel brakes, and fins controlling the flow of air
coming through the radiator based on indications of the thermostat.
Tires can be inflated while on the road using a built-in air hose
and pump that runs off the transmission. It rolls on the steel
wheels and 6.50x20 vintage tires. The interior features tan
upholstered front and rear seats, tan door and side panels, wind
screens on both front and rear windshields and wood steering wheel.
