Vehicle Description

1963 Ford F100 4x4 Long Bed Pickup

"Find us a sun scorched mountain range, you said, then build us a truck to go over it. A pickup truck with muscle and guts. A pickup that works like the big ones. We built that truck at Ford. The F100 for 1963. The pickup built like the big ones. Put it to work. An I-beam axle linked to big truck type leaf springs keeps you tracking true, gives you fingertip control. Pile on a load. Two stage rear leaf springs say 'keep it coming'. Build us a truck you asked. We built you one. The 1963 F100. Test it out. September 28that your Ford dealer!" From one of the many F100 television ads from 1963.

For consignment, a 1963 Ford F100 4x4 Long Bed pickup truck with natural patina, rebuilt 390ci V8 under the hood, and a 4-speed manual transmission.

Exterior
Four gaping intake ports hang like a visor over the vertical face of the lifted truck and the grille shows signs of being white at some point but now browned naturally with rust earned over time. The bumper, once black, wears a similar patina and the rust holes on the hood front are fitting in their worn beauty. On profile, the fender flares that slopes over the wheels are discolored by yet more patina and the bed color differs from the cab and only hints at a bright red it may have been born with. It also features a white stripe down the side while in the back, it's barely detectable as red and the heavy duty step-up rear bumper is perfectly aged but fully intact. Simple single round tail lights on each side tell you this truck is all business without the need for overwrought design elements. Today however, the embossed Ford lettering on the tailgate is epically cool and the aged emblems on the hood could not be manufactured. Outside of the rust holes on the hood, we also note rust through on the back bottom of the cab behind the door.

Interior
The inside holds true to the condition and the first thing we notice is a gaping rust hole in the door jamb in front of the driver's sill. The painted door panels themselves are oxidized and discolored and relatively featureless beyond that. No fancy armrests needed when you're working the ranch. The red vinyl bench shows no rips or large holes and is equally discolored from age and use. The once black and white steering wheel tells the story of thousands of drives and the dash is as basic as ever produced with a speedometer in the middle and some knobs to each side, and that's it. Its two tone white and red is classic farm truck, and the passenger side dash shows some of the best red paint on the truck. The shifter and range selector rise from the floor hump and a textures rubber covering coats the floor for easy cleaning.

Drivetrain
A relatively clean engine rests between the aged inner fenders and it's a rebuilt 390ci V8 with an Edelbrock intake and 4-barrel carburetor. The T98 4-speed manual transmission has a first gear creeper gear and power is initially sent to the Dana 60 out back with 4.10 gears and TracLoc, with potential of a split to the Dana 44 and 4.10's in the front. The finned Cobra valve covers are nice and headers start the exhaust process in this roomy engine bay. A power brake booster is mounted on the firewall and assists the drum brakes on all four wheels.

Undercarriage
Plenty of surface rust underneath, especially on the frame of the bed. Also a spot or two of invasive rust on red body panels underneath. The dual exhaust is clean and encounters Flowmaster mufflers before exiting in front of the rear wheels. We're not seeing a lot of grease build or nor leaks and there's enough height to get under this truck without a lift. And just as the ad says, leaf springs are found front and rear.

Drive-Ability
Climbing up into this big rig, we can only imagine delivering straw bales to the field to feed our 100 head of cattle across 16 acres. But for now, we're just taking a short lap around the test loop as the knobby tires rumble onto the tarmac. The engine runs strong with plenty of power to propel it and tracking, braking, and visibility are all good. With limited functions, it's not hard to score high and everything works as it should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

Patina is not rare these days. But finding authentic patina on a car or truck that runs well and functions perfectly, is. And, so from the rural town of Morgantown, PA, where we have more tractors than traffic lights, this great truck is offered to you no matter where you are or what you plan to do with it. As we've said before, real patina is revered and showing this truck as is would be a hoot, unless you're in a small town where this is the norm. Either way, this is a great 4x4 ready to roll on to the next town. Just let us know where to deliver it!
