Another beautiful Basil Classic... a 1955 Ford Thunderbird with
only 34,791 miles that has been handpicked and meets Joe Basil's
standards of excellence and tradition of fine automobiles since
1951. This vehicle is truly one of a kind and one of the cleanest,
most well taken care of, showroom condition 55' Thunderbirds that
you will find! Buy with confidence!! This Thunderbird is finished
in Thunderbird Blue exterior paint paired with a white convertible
top and classic white wall tires which looks absolutely amazing.
The interior is blue with white accents to match the exterior
styling, and all of the seats and dashboard are in great condition.
The Thunderbird entered production for the 1955 model year as a
sporty two-seat convertible. Unlike the Chevrolet Corvette, it was
not marketed as a sports car. Ford positioned the Thunderbird as an
upscale model and it is credited in developing a new market
segment, the personal luxury car. Production of the Thunderbird
began on September 9 of that year, with the car beginning sales as
a 1955 model on October 22, 1954. Though sharing some design
characteristics with other Fords of the time such as single
circular headlamps and tail lamps, and modest tail fins, the
Thunderbird was sleeker in shape and featured a hood scoop and a
150-mph speedometer not available on other Fords. The Thunderbird
sold exceptionally well in its first year, outselling the Corvette
by more than 23-to-one in 1955 with 16,155 Thunderbirds sold
against 700 Corvettes. The Thunderbird's 102.0 in wheelbase frame
was a shortened version used in other Fords and the standard 292 cu
in Y-block V8 came from Ford's Mercury division and was paired to a
3-speed automatic transmission. Being over 65 years old you can
tell this car was meticulously maintained from the paint to the
interior condition. As shown in the pictures, a full-size spare is
in the trunk with a matching white wall tire! Stop in and see this
beautiful 55' today, it won't last long! Just look and you can tell
that this vehicle was very well cared for by its owners and kept in
show condition! When you drive this vehicle, it has the feel that
you're looking for...runs and drives just like new! This is a no
excuse vehicle. This car will make a fine collector's piece for you
