Vehicle Description
1951 Chevrolet Fleetline 2 Door Sedan
The Fleetline series of cars was produced for 11 years, from 1941
to 1952 with well over a million units in varying configurations
being produced and sold. In 1951, 131,910 two door Fleetline
Deluxes were produced and only 6,441 Fleetline Specials were
made.
For consignment, a 1951 Chevrolet Fleetline 2 door sedan
transformed into a customized show car that has more outside
influence than a Johnny Cash Cadillac. This is a fantastic build
that has won numerous best of show awards.
Exterior
Arena Red Pearl is the main color here, a sparkling burgundy two
stage coat enhanced with silver streaks of stripes that travel down
the fender as if in motion. A fuchsia 51 is on the front quarter
panel and sends out triple streaks along the rocker panel, ending
just before the pontoon fender and skirt in back. Customizations
include the car being chopped 3 inches, the hood has been pancaked
three inches and nosed, the extended headlights are from 1954 and
the taillights are from a '55 Chevy. All of the fuchsia pinstriping
is paint and the metal work on the car is in fantastic condition
including the bumpers, trim piece that encircles the cab, and
accent piece under the filler door. 15-inch Cragar SS wheels wear
215/70R15 tires with a mid 2023 date code. In profile, the car is a
series of elongated rounded panels including the roofline that
mirrors the shape of the hood and trunk nicely. The paint and body
are great with the only imperfection being curb rash on one wheel
and a small ding on the body.
Interior
Custom city inside with the door panels split diagonally between
tan and burgundy panels split by a silver trim piece and topped
with a painted header, all in very nice shape. The power front
buckets seats are from an Impala and combine tan leather with taupe
inserts and more pinstriping on the deep sides. The rear bench is
beautifully sculpted and tan panels fill the walls flanking plush
burgundy carpet. Back in front, a steering wheel from a 1959 Impala
greets the driver in front of a dashboard from a 1954 Oldsmobile
and its chrome backing resembles a jukebox. Modern gauges are added
on the lower body colored dash, and a Pioneer AM/FM/CD radio sits
in the center just before a big chrome grated feature and clock
fills the passenger's view of the dash. The center console provides
some contrasting black with a tach mounted in a soft base and the
Lokar shifter rising from a faux woodgrain frame. More plush
burgundy carpet up front and a tan headliner in great condition.
The trunk presents a show of its own, completely finished in tan
leather with pleated burgundy leather and spare cover, pinstriping,
and black carpet covering the floor.
Drivetrain
Louvered sidewalls slope to a chromed out rebuilt 350ci V8 with
about 2,000 miles since the rebuild. It's got an Edelbrock 4-barrel
carburetor on an Edelbrock intake and just about everything is
either chromed or polished. There's an aluminum radiator and at the
other end, a 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission sending power to
the Blazer 10-bolt rear with 3.42 gears. Power brakes include disc
up front and drums in the rear.
Undercarriage
Very clean underneath with just a touch of surface rust mainly on
the leaf springs. Dual exhaust starts at headers and flows into
stock style mufflers before exiting from rectangle chrome tops
under the rear bumper. With the exception of some oil on the rear
diff, there are no leaks nor grease build up underneath and the
1979 Nova front clip houses coil springs for suspension while, as
noted, leaf springs out back.
Drive-Ability
It's not everyday you get to drive a one of one, and this custom
street rod provides a very comfortable interior for which to
captain this big ship. The 350 puts out a nice exhaust tone and
also provides adequate acceleration. The car tracks straight and
handles well, and the power assisted brakes come in handy.
Everything functions in this well built car and after a quick lap
around the loop, it's time to bring it into port. While Classic
Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time
of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be
working at the time of your purchase.
A turnkey Fleetline street rod for show that has genetic components
from various GM offspring. It's a great looking car with a sweet
interior and engine that shows and goes! On the back, the
pinstriped words "Pure Pleasure" are written on the trunk lid, and
we've confirmed, it's truth in advertising.
