Desirable Soft-Window Targa with high-quality restoration by Porsche collector with a commitment to detail, very fine example.
Engine & Transmission: The 1.6-liter flat-four engine runs strong and is very nice. It delivers power whenever you want it. The car has a 5-speed manual transmission and shifts very smoothly. The underside of the car is clean. All mechanicals have been refurbished or replaced during the restoration. There are receipt’s in the (detailed photo link) to show the commitment to this car.
Body: Finished in attractive Tangerine with a black removable top panel and removable soft back zipper window. Brushed stainless steel roll-over hoop. The body panels are all straight. All glass is in great shape. The paint is extremely nice even up close. I am pretty particular when it comes to condition and after close examination I could only find one small blemishes in the paint on top right of engine door (see video). 2019 date coded on tires. The car has never been hit and is kept with collectors other cars in a heated garage.
Interior: The leatherette interior is new. All doors are excellent. The dash and instruments work as they should. New carpet floor mat. Exceptional workmanship, see detailed photos and video.
Summary: The collector of this car is keen on keeping his cars mechanically solid for use. This is a wonderful example of a classic 912. It is in exceptional condition and perfect for cruising and taking to car shows. The collector enjoys the process of a restoration, a true labor of love and passion with great attention to detail. Production Facts:
912 (1965–1969)
As production of the 356 model concluded in 1965, on April 5, 1965 Porsche officially began production of the 912 coupé. Styling, performance, quality construction, reliability, and price made the 912 a very attractive buy to both new and old customers, and it substantially outsold the 911 during the first few years of production. Porsche produced nearly 30,000 912 coupé units and about 2500 912 Targa body style units (Porsche's patented variation of a cabriolet) during a five-year manufacturing run. Production of the Targa, complete with removable roof and heavy transparent plastic rear windows openable with a zipper (later called 'Version I' by Porsche and the 'Soft-Window Targa' by enthusiasts), commenced in December 1966 as a 1967 model. In January 1968, Porsche also made available a Targa 'Version II' option ('hard window Targa') with fixed glass rear window, transforming the Targa into a coupé with removable roof.
