items completedThe 1986 Toyota Supra marked the final iteration of
the second-generation A60 Celica Supra, with the robust 2.8L DOHC
5M-GE I6 engine. This 12-valve (2 valves per cylinder) DOHC engine
was a significant advancement over its predecessors. Featuring
Bosch L-Jetronic-derived electronic fuel-injection, wide-angle
valves, and belt-driven dual camshafts. Notably, it utilized
hydraulic valve lifters?a first for Toyota?along with rocker arms
and valve lash adjusters, eliminating the need for valve clearance
maintenance, a groundbreaking achievement for any twin-cam
engine. The 5M-GE engine, was further refined in 1983 with the
introduction of the Toyota Computer Control System (TCCS). This
advanced engine management system provided full electronic control
of the ignition system and distributor. Alongside redesigned intake
runners, TCCS increased the engine's maximum power by 5 bhp. All
these modifications with the 5 speed manual gearbox give the supra
not only an immersive and amazing drivers experience but also
achieve 0-60 mph in 8.4 seconds and complete the quarter-mile in
16.1 seconds at 85 mph.The 1986 Supra also saw exterior updates,
including a redesigned, more integrated sunshade and a transition
from a one-piece to a two-piece rear spoiler, improving the
vehicle's aerodynamic profile.Additionally, this Supra has several
convenience features, such as a standard factory theft deterrent
system, defogger-equipped outside mirrors that activated with the
rear defroster, and automatic-off headlights with an automatic
illuminated entry and fade-out system. These enhancements reflected
Toyota's commitment to blending performance with luxury in the
Supra lineup. Although 1985 was the official end of the
second-generation Supra's production, delays in the third
generation's development led to the continued sale of the 1985
P-Type into the first half of 1986. These models, labeled as 1986
models, featured minor cosmetic changes and a mandatory
rear-mounted third brake light on the hatch.Car Cave sourced this
