For Sale: 2000 Plymouth Prowler in Medford, New Jersey

Vehicle Description

For sale is my boss' 2000 Plymouth Prowler Woodward Edition #123. An avid car collector, he is the original owner who has added only 50 original miles!

This Prowler is a 50-mile time capsule and a rare Woodward Edition, number 123, one of only 151 produced.

Plymouth only produced 151 Woodward Editions. With only 50 original miles, this is likely the lowest mileage example anywhere!

During the 1990s, under the direction of Tom Gale, Chrysler displayed an innovative car design swagger, the likes of which will likely never be replicated.  This domestic automotive renaissance at Chrysler produced several cars naysayers said could never be built, the most radical of which was the Plymouth Prowler.

When Chrysler engineers were given free rein to design a modern hot rod. Chryslers design and international director Tom Gale said,  his love for 1930s-era hot rods inspired the retro-styled Plymouth Prowler.  Gale, who has a hotted-up 1932 Ford in his garage, approved the hotrod-inspired Plymouth Prowler as a follow-up to the equally stunning Dodge Viper.  Not well known is that the design was originally inspired by a retro roadster concept penned by Chip Foose during his earlier days before he was a household name.

While the open-wheel design and all-aluminum construction represented out-of-the-box thinking, the rest of the cars styling left a bit to be desired. The use of a 3.5-liter V6 and automatic transmission powertrain disappointed many potential buyers who felt the car deserved a V8 to be a true Hot Rod. That, combined with a hand-built price tag starting at $43,000 in 2000 (roughly $78,000 in todays dollars), limited the Prowlers production to only 11,702 units between 1997 and 2002.

This 2000 Plymouth Prowler is one of 151 Woodward Edition examples produced for the model year and is named after the historic cruising boulevard in Detroit. It is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 paired with a four-speed automatic transaxle and is finished in two-tone Prowler Black and red over Agate leather upholstery. Equipment includes staggered-diameter five-spoke wheels, a black convertible top, air conditioning, cruise control, and an Infinity sound system connected to an AM/FM/cassette stereo with a CD changer.

The car is finished in two-tone Prowler Black and red with a red-painted pinstripe, and features split front and rear bumpers with integrated lights as well as cycle-style front fenders, dual exhaust outlets, and a black manually operated convertible top that stows in the rear-hinged trunk.

Chrome-finished 17 and 20 five-spoke wheels are mounted with Goodyear Eagle GS-D tires measuring 295/40 up front and 225/45 out back. The suspension utilizes coilovers mounted inboard of the narrow front bodywork, and braking is from four-wheel ventilated discs.  This example features its original set of tires.  Despite having only fifty miles and stored out of direct sunlight, we recommend prospective buyers plan to buy a replacement set of tires if they plan to add any miles to the car.

The leather-wrapped steering wheel frames an AutoMeter tachometer, and a body-color instrument panel houses a central 150-mph speedometer and gauges for voltage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The digital odometer shows just 50 miles.

The 3.5-liter V6 features an aluminum block and was factory rated at 253 horsepower and 255 lb-ft of torque.  Power gets delivered to the rear wheels through a torque tube and a rear-mounted four-speed automatic transaxle.

Named after the most historic cruising boulevard in the country, the Woodward Edition was the first two-tone Prowler ever produced. The two-tone scheme used the Prowler Red (PRD) and Prowler Black (PXT) colors and created a special scheme that separated itself from the rest of the Prowler lineup.

While the hood, rear deck lid, and upper doors were painted in Prowler Black, famed Detroit pinstriper Dr. Ru hand-painted a red stripe around the lower portion of the black-painted area. Dr. Ru then signed and numbered each of the 151 Woodward Edition production models just above the rear license plate bracket. Two additional pilot cars were produced without the signature.

With only 151 units produced, the Woodward Edition is the rarest model of Prowler behind the last unit ever produced in a custom High-Voltage Blue that was sold for charity.  Were fairly certain this car may be the lowest mileage Woodward Edition in existence.

When new, this Prowler was added to the sellers eclectic car collection. The seller kept it covered and properly protected in dry storage. The car was recently removed from long-term storage and prepared for this sale.

This 2000 Plymouth Prowler is a unique opportunity to purchase what is essentially a twenty-four-year-old new car.
