Vehicle Description
Cruisin Classics is excited to offer for your consideration this
1972 Chevelle powered by the original numbers matching 402ci big
block engine backed by a Non numbers matching Muncie 4-speed
transmission. Power is put to the ground through a 12-bolt Posi
rear end with 3:31 gears. What we learned by decoding the trim tag
that appears to be original and unmolested, the car has been
repainted in its original color of Cranberry red (Paint code 75).
While we would not consider it to be a show quality repaint it does
show well, we would call it a nice driver quality repaint. Also
found to be trim tag correct are the black (code 704) bucket seats
(code A51) found to be in nice driver-quality condition with no
rips or tears, only showing what we consider to be normal wear. The
dashboard, carpet, and headliner are all in overall nice condition
as well. In 1972 the only way to identify a real "SS" was if it had
a "W" as the 5th digit in the Vin number indicating a 454ci engine
that only came in the "SS" cars or a build sheet, Pro-tec-to plate
or original bill of sale. Unfortunately, we do not have any
documentation and the 5th digit of this car is a "U" Indicating an
LS3 402ci engine. Starting in 1972 the government mandated all
engines be rated in SAE net rather than the gross HP rating. Due to
the new mandate the LS3 402ci engine was underrated at 240
horsepower. The car has what you would expect to find on a real
"SS" including round gauges with white numbers, a black front
grill, and "SS" badging in all the correct places. We realize that
all of these things can be easily installed on a non-SS" car to
create a clone. We truly believe this Chevelle could be a real "SS"
but there is absolutely no way to prove it is or is not at this
point. After purchasing this Chevelle we ran it through our
performance center where we pulled the engine and made some
improvements. We installed a new Comp cams roller cam kit, 510/510
duration, center line 110, matching valve springs, new retainers,
new timing chain, push rods and push rod guides. Other new parts
include ceramic-coated long tube headers, HEI distributor and new
wires, a new oil pump, and pick-up. A new McLeod Super street 11"
clutch assembly and flywheel. New OEM chrome valve covers and
finally, a new Edelbrock 800 CFM carb sitting on a brand new
Edelbrock plasma-coated Performer RPM intake. Please feel free to
call one of our friendly staff with any questions you may have
about this Chevelle, I would suggest you not wait long as we don't
think this one will last!
