The pony car wars of the mid-1960s led to no shortage of thrilling
on-track action, as American automakers duked it out on-track in
the Trans-Am series - and this in turn led to excitement at
dealerships, with manufacturers rolling out high-performance
road-legal counterparts to their racing machines. Chevrolet's
contender on this front was the legendary 1969 Camaro Z/28, which
offered up an ideal balance of performance, handling and
unforgettable style.
This 1969 Z/28, dating from the last year of the Camaro's pivotal
first generation, is finished in the striking colors of Daytona
Yellow (code 76) with signature black twin racing stripes. The X77
code on the trim tag of this Norwood built car is part of the
evidence that this is a real-deal Z/28. All the desirable features
that make the Z/28 so iconic are on this car, including a cowl
induction hood, rear spoiler, chin spoiler and Z/28 identification.
A set of 15-inch Chevrolet rally wheels wrapped with 235/60R15
Goodrich Radial T/A tires complete the classic muscle car look of
this Camaro. The black interior features black and white
houndstooth patterned seats, correct OEM steering wheel, optional
console with gauges, factory tachometer and retro-style stereo
radio.

Power is supplied by a period correct DZ 302-cubic-inch small-block
V-8 factory-rated, very conservatively at 290 horsepower; actual
output in stock form was well north of that figure. The engine bay
is clean and authentic in appearance, including a Winters stamped
factory aluminum intake, finned valve covers, correct hoses,
clamps, spring-ring battery cables, power steering, power front
disc brakes and more. Its four-speed Muncie manual transmission is
operated via a Hurst shifter tucked between the front bucket seats
and it is connected to a 3.23 12-bolt rear axle.
