Vehicle Description
Chassis No. BNR34-002082
The turn of the millennium marked a watershed moment in Japanese
automotive engineering, and no vehicle embodies this era's spirit
quite like the 1999 Nissan Skyline GT-R, colloquially known as the
R34. As the final generation to carry the Skyline name, the R34
represented the culmination of a legendary lineage that began in
1969 while building on the formidable reputation of its R32 and R33
predecessors. With 2024 making foreign-market vehicles built in
1999 eligible for import to the United States under the 25 year
import rule, the R34 GT-R is poised to make its long-awaited
entrance into the U.S.-market, promising to ignite a fervor among
Japanese performance collectors and enthusiasts alike.
At the heart of this technological tour de force was the venerable
"RB26DETT" engine, a 2.6-liter twin-turbocharged inline-six
producing a claimed 276 horsepower - a figure long understood to be
a gentleman's agreement among Japanese manufacturers rather than a
true reflection of its capabilities. This potent engine was mated
to a Getrag six-speed manual transmission, a noteworthy upgrade
from the five-speed units of its predecessors. The R34 GT-R's
advanced ATTESA E-TS (Advanced Total Traction Engineering System
for All-Terrain) all-wheel-drive system and HICAS (High Capacity
Actively Controlled Steering) four-wheel steering setup ensured
that its considerable power was translated into unparalleled
road-holding and cornering capabilities. Perhaps most emblematic of
the R34's forward-thinking design was its Multifunction Display
(MFD). This digital interface provided drivers with a wealth of
real-time performance data, a feature that was nothing short of
revolutionary for its time and foreshadowed the information-rich
cockpits of modern supercars.
With just 11,578 units produced across all variants, the R34 GT-R
stands as the rarest of the modern Skyline GT-R trilogy. Even rarer
still are V-Spec (Victory Specification) examples like the car
offered here, equipped with the ATTESA E-TS Pro system and an
active limited slip differential at the rear, firmer suspension,
and enhanced aerodynamics including front and side splitters as
well as a rear carbon fiber air diffuser. These track-focused GT-Rs
accounted for just 4,193 examples.
Produced in February 1999, this Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec is a
superb example of the highest-performing R34 GT-R variant,
presented in Midnight Purple II (LV4) - one of approximately 282
V-Spec GT-Rs finished in this striking color. In addition to its
exceptionally rare color scheme, chassis number 002082 is also
equipped with optional privacy glass and a Multi AV system,
including voice-guided satellite navigation, six speakers, and a CD
changer.
Chassis number 002082 was sold new by Nissan Prince Tokyo via their
Fuchu agency to its first and only Japanese owner in Tokyo, Japan.
The car is accompanied by a large history binder containing a
wealth of original documentation, including its maintenance book
(containing its first stamp from March 1999), owner's manual, and
navigation book. The original PDI (Pre-Delivery Inspection) form
and factory Nissan warranty paperwork for dealer options are also
present. The car's service history is exceptionally
well-documented, with its maintenance book showing the first and
second annual services having taken place by 2001. From 2003
onwards, the car underwent Japan's biannual inspections (MOT), with
records for each inspection on file. This meticulous documentation
showcases a life of careful maintenance throughout its time in
Japan.
In 2024, the GT-R was imported to the United States under new
ownership. Upon arrival, the Skyline received a comprehensive
service at Toprank Importers, including the replacement of the
timing belt and water pump, overhauling the clutch (including
replacement of the slave cylinder), a fluids change, and more -
invoices for which are on file. Paint meter readings are consistent
throughout the vehicle, suggesting that it retains its coveted
original Midnight Purple II paint. The interior also appears to be
original, further attesting to the car's exceptional
preservation.
With its long-term common Japanese ownership, comprehensive
documentation, and rare color scheme, this Skyline GT-R V-Spec is
an exceptional example of Nissan's iconic supercar. Now showing
109,851 kilometers (approximately 68,258 miles) at the time of
cataloging, this Skyline GT-R V-Spec offers not just an opportunity
to experience zenith of 20th-century Japanese performance
engineering, but a chance to own a rare V-Spec variant that has,
until now, remained the stuff of legend for many enthusiasts.
