A TRUE SURVIVOR, WE ARE TOLD FROM THE PREVIOUS OWNER THAT THE CAR HAS 24K ORGINAL MILES AND IT TRULY SHOWS AS NEW IN ALL RESPECTS. This 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle SS is finished in Y code Butternut yellow over a black interior and is powered by what is believed to be the original almost numbers-matching L78 396ci V8 paired with an M21 4-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a 12-bolt Posi traction rear end, factory tachometer, and dog dish hubcaps
The car is finished in its factory shade of Y code Butternut yellow and has been fully and professionally restored. The body lines and paintwork exhibit a show-quality appearance. All chrome and trim are excellent, including the headlight bezels, bumpers, window trim, and side moldings. SuperSport emblems are fitted in both the front grille and the black taillight panel
Factory steel wheels, matching the body, are equipped with chrome dog dish hubcaps. Braking is handled by manual drums all around. The Chevelle was factory equipped with Buick interior components due to a production strike in 1968 and consists of black vinyl bench seats for both front and rear with matching door panels and carpet. The factory push-button AM radio is fitted in the dash, just below controls for the heater. A chrome shifter with a chrome knob for the 4-speed is mounted on the transmission tunnel, and an "SS 396" script is found on the passenger side dash. Instrumentation includes a 120-mph speedometer along with a factory roller tachometer and an analog clock. Additional gauges provide readouts for voltage, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer reads 24k miles, which are original to the vehicle we are told
The 396ci V8 was factory rated at 375 horsepower. It retains many of its original parts. The engine bay looks like new original condition, with the inner fenders and firewall finished in matte black. The engine block and heads are finished in the correct Chevrolet engine orange. The fuel lines and brake lines have been replaced recently. Power is sent to the rear wheels through the matching-numbers 4-speed Muncie M21 manual transmission and factory KK code 12-bolt 4.10 Posi traction rear end. The underside looks as good as the top, with all components repainted or re-plated and shows like it did in the showroom in 1968!
