Vehicle Description
After 1973, Porsche struggled to retain customers as their dive
into meeting California emissions regulations caused a panic
amongst engineers...and purists. With changes such as a revised
Bosch fuel injection system and being a bit indecisive when it came
to engine casing material-steel or magnesium-the 911 began to lose
steam. Thankfully, all that was needed was a plan, a five year plan
to be exact.
It was decided that next five years of the 911 would receive a 915,
5-speed manual gearbox, a galvanized body/chassis, and come in
three variants, a Coupe, Targa and for the first time in the 911
model, a Cabriolet for the 1982/83 model year. The SC or Super
Carrera, was produced from 1978 to 1983 and with a concise
technical/mechanical plan in place, Porsche was able to familiarize
international markets and mechanics alike.
