This 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle 502 Restomod is a black-on-black beast
that's racked up more awards than most cars see in a lifetime. With
its first show appearance netting Best of Show at the 2004 Super
Chevy Show in Commerce, Georgia, this Chevelle set the bar high
from the start. The slick exterior showcases immaculate PPG
basecoat that emphasizes every muscular curve of the iconic A-body.
Custom Boyd Coddington wheels, 17 inches all around, fill the wheel
wells with 245/50R17 rubber up front and meatier 255/60R17s in the
rear. The stance is aggressive yet refined, thanks to a 1-inch drop
courtesy of Hotchkis components. Sequential rear turn signals and a
fiberglass hood with a subtle air scoop hint at the performance
upgrades lurking within.
Inside, the craftsmanship is equally impressive. Steve Holcomb of
Pro Auto Custom Interiors in Knoxville, Tennessee, transformed the
cabin into a black and gold masterpiece. Cerullo front buckets and
a custom rear bench, wrapped in supple leather, offer all-day
comfort without a wrinkle in sight. The dash gleams with gold
paint, housing Classic Instruments gauges and a Lokar "Black
Thunder" emblem. A custom console integrates a Hurst Quarter Stick
shifter and Vintage Air climate controls. Modern touches like power
windows and an Alpine sound system blend seamlessly with the
classic muscle car aesthetic. The trunk continues the theme,
housing additional Alpine components and showcasing the attention
to detail that earned this Chevelle its "Outstanding Interior"
accolade.
Lift the hood to reveal the 502 cubic inch GM Performance Parts V8
churning out a monstrous 540 horsepower. This powerhouse is mated
to a Jasper TurboHydramatic 400 3-speed automatic transmission,
featuring a 2600 stall converter for explosive launches. The
chassis, massaged by Craig's Hot Rod Shop in Knoxville, Tennessee,
is a work of art in itself. Polished Fatman control arms, AGR power
steering, and Carrera coil-overs ensure this Chevelle handles as
well as it accelerates. Bringing it all to a halt are massive Baer
brakes - 13-inch rotors up front and 12-inch in the rear, all
drilled and slotted for maximum stopping power.
