For Sale: 1972 Chevrolet El Camino in Columbus, Ohio

Vehicle Description

Cruisin Classics is proud to present to you this simply awesome 1972 Chevrolet El Camino. This sure isn't your run-of-the-mill El Camino - this is a numbers-matching 402ci big block car with a numbers-matching 3-speed automatic transmission, Fitech fuel injection, cold factory air conditioning, power steering, power brakes, gleaming chrome trim, slick paint, a cowl hood, a stunning houndstooth interior, and only 46,442 actual miles! This beauty checks all the boxes! This El Camino comes to us dressed in a glossy and bright coat of Cranberry Red paint (GM#2189) in good driver condition with painted black SS stripes. The car was originally an Antique White car with Placer Gold upper and lower sections but the only evidence of that today is what is stamped on the trim tag. The front end of the car is a real eye-catcher with a cowl hood with "Cowl Induction" badges and a set of bright hood pins. The good looks continue with bright bezels surrounding the large "Power-Beam" single unit headlights, bright trim around the side marker lights, a 4-bar horizontal grille with a centered "SS" badge, and a mirror-finish bumper with bumper guards. While this El Camino wears SS badging there is no way to tell if it was born an SS car without documentation (only 454ci cars were mandatorily equipped with the SS package). Looking down the sides of the car you'll see that the body is exceptionally straight with good panel fitment. Just like the front of the car, the sides feature their share of brilliant brightwork including wheel lip molding, drip rail molding, window trim, door handles, bed rail trim, and SS fender badges. Adding to the sporty side view are dual color-keyed side mirrors. Around the back, you'll find another gleaming bumper, dual chrome exhaust tips, a red tailgate with a black horizontal band and integrated reverse lights, brightly trimmed taillights, and a clean bed with a fitted black rubber mat to keep it nice. This whole gorgeous package sits proudly atop a set of steel Rally wheels with center caps and beauty rings, all wrapped in Mastercraft Avenger GT tires - a perfect combination for the look of this El Camino!

Pull the pins and lift the cowl hood to find a tidy and organized black engine bay with a big orange 402ci V-8 at the center. The paint has been scraped off of the front engine tab, making it very easy to see the numbers that verify this car was born with this engine. This big block is topped off with chrome "Chevrolet" logo valve covers, FiTech fuel injection, and a chrome "Chevrolet" air cleaner. Exhaust flows through cast manifolds, newer pipes, and newer Flowmaster mufflers before exiting the chrome tips with a satisfying rumble. Other highlights under the hood include power steering, power brakes (front discs/rear drums), and working factory A/C. The big V-8 is mated to the original numbers-matching TH400 3-speed automatic transmission. Power gets put to the pavement via a 12-bolt rear end with open gears. Take a peak underneath at the clean black undercarriage and find unexpected extras like a new gas tank and a new front sway bar with fresh bushings.

When you open the driver's door you're greeted by a working courtesy light that illuminates a jaw-droppingly cool black and white houndstooth interior. This interior was not an option for the 72 El Camino, but when you see how good it looks you'll wonder why not! The door panels feature padded black vinyl with black white houndstooth cloth inserts, OEM-style armrests, and window cranks. A shining sill plate leads to a newer black carpet that welcomes you inside. The comfortable black vinyl bench seat mimics the door panels with houndstooth cloth inserts and offers seatbelts for 3 passengers. The black padded vinyl dash pad is in excellent condition and looks like new. The dash is home to a 120mph speedometer, a fuel gauge, and an analog clock. Several aftermarket gauges have been added; an SW trans oil temp gauge and an Equus water temp gauge have both been installed in the dash while an Autometer vacuum gauge is mounted under the dash. Speaking of under the dash, a battery cut-off button has been added for security and to preserve battery life. Also found on the dash are the original Delco AM push-button radio (inop.) and factory climate controls that operate the cold A/C, hot heat, and working fan. Directly ahead of the driver is a 2-spoke black OEM steering wheel on a tilt column while ahead of the passenger is an empty glovebox. Sitting on the center tunnel is an aftermarket cup-holder/storage box dressed in red vinyl that serves as a home to the Fitech controller screen. Overhead you'll find a tight black vinyl headliner and behind the seat is a full spare with a factory jack.

If you're looking for an El Camino, it's going to be impossible for you to not want to stop and take a hard look at this beautiful example! This car fires right up every time (courtesy of the fuel injection) and runs as good as it looks. It's tough to find one of these big block El Caminos with a numbers-matching drivetrain and working factory A/C and you'll likely never find another with a houndstooth interior! Give our friendly staff a call - we surely won't have this car for long!
