For Sale: 1955 Ford F100 in Morgantown, Pennsylvania

Vehicle Description

1955 Ford F100 Pickup

The introduction of the Ford F-series in 1948 sparked a flame destined to grow into a roaring fire by the turn of the 21st century. The second generation of the F-series, the Ford F-100, was right around the corner. Over 100,000 of these trucks left the factory every year between 1953 and 1956, retaining the standard trim levels of F-100 to F-900. Of course, the most popular models were still the F-100, with trucks finding their ways into suburban driveways en masse for the first time.

For consignment, a 1955 Ford F100 pickup with lots of new parts and many refreshed items. It's a mix of old and new and some old school street rod touches like Boyd Coddington wheels and a 350ci V8 under the hood.

Exterior
After the color, the first thing you notice is the stance which is low slung over those 15-inch Boyd Coddington custom wheels, nearly scraping the asphalt with that body of Vermillion Red paint. This two stage coat of paint makes everything not red pop on the truck including the grille trim, headlights, step plate, and appearance of pinstripe designs on each panel of the truck. The red glistens like glossy lipstick reflecting every bit of light and the color continues onto the hard tonneau covering the bed. Bulging fenders are connected with a wide running board and the tall, rounded cab has a metal trimmed drip rail while taillight include the old style external assemblies and flush modern rectangles on the valance, just above the dual exhaust. The wood planks and metal rails in the bed look fantastic. Try as we might, we could not find any glaring imperfections on the exterior.

Interior
The doors are dressed smartly in gray tweed, neatly buttoned to the door and sharing space with power switches for the window and locks, along with the door handle and pull. A bench seat continues the material in a pleated pattern in great condition. A 3 spoke steering wheel fronts a body colored dashboard that houses a small gauge cluster with some essential gauges on a machined red metal plate. More gauges flank the steering column followed by an AM/FM radio with CD changer in the center and a power antenna is connected. Bring the polish inside because it's as glossy as the outside. There are vents around as this truck is A/C equipped and the cab is insulated. The tweed covers the back wall, the headliner, and the visors for a uniform and handsome interior.

Drivetrain
A spectacularly clean engine presents itself under the hood and it's got 350ci and an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor on top of an Edelbrock intake manifold. Finned valve covers highlight a clean engine with plenty of polished metal, a new wiring harness according to the consignor, as well as new fuel lines and hoses. A new master cylinder heads up the braking system which consists of power discs up front and power drums in the back. Headers begin the exhaust process of the dual system.

Undercarriage
The underside is virtually free of surface rust and lacks any kind of invasive rust. A few drops of oil hang from the pan, the flywheel cover, and the transmission pan but there does not appear to be an active leak. The rest is dry and there is no grease or grime on the steering or suspension components. Suspension consists of coil springs in the front and leaf springs in the rear. The dual exhaust finds its way from the headers to Flowmaster muffler before heading straight back.

Drive-Ability
The 350 lights up with a bit of a roar and we roll onto the loop in one of the lowest F100's we've had the pleasure of testing. The tinted rear window is a nice addition and has a sliding center and the cab is comfortable and clean. Decent acceleration is noted along with great turn-in and tracking, and the brakes do their job. As noted, the power locks don't work but all other functions operate as they should, and gauges let us know the status of engine systems. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

Boyd Coddington was just 11 years old in 1955 and likely saw these trucks but could not have dreamed that 70 years later, these same trucks would be wearing his wheels! This truck is a showstopper even if you're not attending shows! It's low stance, screaming red paint, recent upgrades, and smart interior is just what you're looking for! Are we right? Let us know.
