Vehicle Description
Looking for your own Family Truckster? We have one here at
MotoeXotica Classic Cars, or at least as close as you can get to
National Lampoon's Family Vacation.
This example was made in Ford's St. Thomas Assembly factory in
Southwold, Ontario, Canada in November 1986. It's one of 17,562
Country Squires made in 1987 and was initially sold in the Omaha,
Nebraska sales territory. It has had the same loving family for the
past 22 years. Prior owner stated mileage was actual at 41,954.
Finished in Dark Clove Brown Metallic, the wagon's paint and trim
are in overall very good order. The doors, tailgate and fenders are
adorned with woodgrain appliques that mimicked the real wood used
on the 1950 and 1951 wagons. The bodywork is straight and solid,
the engine bay is in satisfactory order as is the cargo area. There
is an 18-gallon fuel tank. The chrome bumpers fit tightly to the
body.
This wagon rolls on white stripe Cooper Lifeline GLS, size
215/70R15 at every corner. Each tire is mounted on a locking
wire-style wheel cover. The wheels and tires are all in very good
condition. This wagon rides a 114.3-inch wheelbase and a 5,550
GVWR.
Inside, the Sand Beige cloth interior features a six-way, split
front bench seat that is in very good condition, as is the rear
bench seat. The matching carpet is in satisfactory order while the
corresponding headliner is in very good shape. A four-spoke
steering wheel faces the driver. The dashboard is in very good
order under its dashpad while the inner door panels are in
satisfactory shape. A column-mounted shift lever and a factory
AM/FM stereo with cassette deck complete the interior.
From 1979 to 1991, a five-door station wagon was offered as part of
the LTD/LTD Crown Victoria model line. Offered in equivalent trim
as sedans, the flagship version remained the wood-trimmed LTD
Country Squire, trimmed nearly identically to the LTD Crown
Victoria (and the subsequent LTD Crown Victoria LX). On hiatus for
the 1983 model year, a non-woodgrain station wagon returned for
1984 under the LTD Crown Victoria nameplate (the previous LTD
station wagon); this version was offered in fleet (S) trim,
standard trim and LX trim. Rear windows need assistance going
up.
While smaller than its 1970s predecessor, the LTD Crown
Victoria/Country Squire wagon returned many of its functional
features. The rear door was dual-hinged, allowing it to function as
a tailgate or swing outward; other features included a standard
roof rack and optional side-facing rear seats (expanding capacity
from six to eight).
For 1979, Ford downsized its full-size car lines. Eleven inches
shorter and nearly 1000 pounds lighter than its 1978 predecessor,
the redesigned Country Squire retained its eight-passenger seating
capability with only slightly reduced cargo capacity. While
retaining a V-8 engine, the Country Squire shifted from the 400 and
460 CID V-8s to the 302 and 351 CID Windsor V-8s, sharing engines
with the Ford Granada. When this generation of station wagon was
introduced, the wheelbase was one inch longer than the intermediate
1962 Ford Fairlane station wagon and was shorter than the 1972 Ford
Gran Torino Squire station wagon.
Competition to this Ford in 1987 included Buick's LeSabre Estate,
Chevrolet's Caprice Classic Wagon, Ford's own Taurus LX Wagon,
Mercury's Grand Marquis Colony Park station wagon, Mercury's Sable
LS Wagon, Nissan's Maxima GXE Wagon, Oldsmobile's Custom Cruiser
wagon, Peugeot's 505 Turbo Wagon and Pontiac's Safari Wagon.

Ford may be the perfect candidate for you. Visit MotoeXotica
