This 1965 Rambler Marlin represents American Motors Corporation's
bold move into the fastback market. With only 10,327 units produced
in its inaugural year, this Marlin is a rare find. The two-tone
Frost White and Antigua Red paint (code 72A-3A) accentuates its
unique fastback profile and distinctive rear fenders. Chrome trim
adorns the body, while a stylish hood ornament leads the way. The
Marlin rides on 15-inch wheels wrapped in F70-15 Firestone wide
oval tires, combining period-correct style with road-gripping
performance.
Red dominates the interior, creating a cohesive look with the
exterior. Individual reclining front bucket seats, upholstered in
vinyl and cloth, offer comfort for long drives. The dash features
engine-turned aluminum accents, adding a sporty flair. A
column-mounted shifter controls the 3-speed automatic transmission.
Power steering and air conditioning (needs repair to blow cold)
enhance the driving experience. Stainless steel trim on the door
panels contrasts nicely with the carpeting. For enhanced
monitoring, aftermarket gauges for temperature, oil, and voltage
have been added to the driver's side.
The Marlin's 287 V8 engine, a 4.7-liter powerhouse, generates 198
horsepower at 4700 RPM. Paired with a 2-barrel carburetor and
3-speed automatic transmission, it delivers smooth power to the
rear wheels. This Marlin comes equipped with power brakes - discs
up front and drums in the rear. The suspension setup includes coil
springs and shocks in the front, with coil springs and air shocks
in the rear, providing a balanced ride. A dual exhaust system with
Cherry Bomb mufflers adds a performance-oriented note to this
classic fastback.
