Cruisin Classics is pleased to present to you this 1973 Chevrolet
Corvette Stingray. This big block Corvette represents the last year
of C3s with chrome bumperettes on the rear of the car - and they do
look great! According to the trim tag and VIN, this car was born
with Metallic Orange paint, a Dark Saddle interior, and a 454 under
the hood - just as it sits today. This car has been treated to a
quality respray of Metallic Orange paint at some point in the past
and it is still high driver quality with a lustrous shine and few
imperfections. This Vette sports an upgraded, mean-looking cowl
induction domed hood that has been accented with tasteful black
striping and "454" badges. The pointed front bumper changed from
chrome to polyurethane in '73 and this one looks very nice with no
warping or spider-webbing. Like all C3s, this car has the iconic
pop-up headlights but unfortunately, these are currently
inoperative (though the lights themselves do come on). The
low-slung front end also features a 3-piece divided black grille
and a black chin spoiler, both in good condition. Looking down at
the beautiful curvaceous body there are quite a few bright elements
that accent the orange paint, like "Stingray" fender badges, chrome
A-pillar and windshield trim, T-top trim, unique door handles,
rocker covers, dual chrome side mirrors. The T-tops fit snugly,
look great, and offer the option of a whole different driving
experience. Gleaming brightwork continues around the back with a
luggage rack, the bumperettes, chrome rectangular exhaust tips
surrounds, chrome license plate surround, and "CORVETTE" lettering.
Topping off the gorgeous exterior look are steel rally wheels with
center caps and beauty rings wrapped in white-letter Cooper Cobra
Radial GTs.
Lift the cowl hood to reveal a largely stock engine bay with a big
orange Chevy 454ci V-8 at the center. We were told by the previous
owner that the engine had been rebuilt (no receipts available) and
he believed it was original to the car. Unfortunately, when the
engine was rebuilt the heads were decked and it ground away the
numbers on the front tab - making it impossible to know if its
numbers matched or not. What we do know is that this big block runs
strong and is eager to get up and move! The engine is topped off
with polished valve covers, an aluminum intake, a 4-barrel Holley
carburetor, and an air filter designed for use with the cowl
induction hood (original air cleaner included with the car). Other
highlights under the hood include a chrome ignition shield, power
steering, headers, and power 4-wheel disc brakes. The big V-8 is
mated to a 3-speed automatic transmission that shifts smoothly.
Open the driver's door and find a very original-looking Dark Saddle
interior. The driver's door panel is showing a little age with a
few chips, a bit of missing trim, an ill-fitting pull handle, and a
missing lock knob (the knob comes with the car). The passenger door
panel is in better condition but still shows some light wear. The
Dark Saddle vinyl seats are in good driver condition with no rips
or tears and we suspect that they may be very well-kept original
seats. Seatbelts are correct interlocking lap and shoulder belts.
The armrest section of the center console would benefit from an
aftermarket pad to cover a few screw holes from a previously
attached fire extinguisher holder. The power window buttons flank
the emergency brake lever and work as they should. The shifter
section of the console is in generally good condition with light
wear. The heat seems to work, but unfortunately, the blower fan
does not. The stock radio has been replaced with an aftermarket
AM/FM/Cassette stereo that plays through the factory dash speakers.
The stereo is missing its knobs but it is still fully functional.
The original stereo also comes with the car. Above the stereo are
working gauges for fuel, temp, oil, and battery as well as a
working analog clock. Above the gauges, under the lip of the dash
is a switch for the working 2-speed wipers. Directly ahead of the
driver are a 160mph speedometer, working tachometer, and odometer
showing 65,436 miles. The top of the dash is crack-free but there
is what seems to be a glue residue at the top center that we were
unable to remove (we don't know what it's from). The driver is
treated to a 3-spoke OEM steering wheel on a tilt and telescopic
column with a working horn. The car has been equipped with a power
shut-off key hidden under the passenger side of the dash. Looking
down you'll find that new pedal covers have been added and black
rubber floormats cover the footwells. The carpet looks original to
the car and shows some wear and stains. In the cargo area behind
the seats are a couple of storage bins and straps to hold down the
T-tops if you're storing them back there. Also included with the
car are an original owner's manual, a fire extinguisher, a set of
original keys, and the aforementioned original stereo and driver
lock knob.
If you're looking for a big block C3 Corvette that looks great but
won't break the bank then this car is just what the doctor ordered!
It has a couple of repairs/upgrades that can be done over time, but
none of them prevent you from going out right now and having a
blast in a great-looking Corvette Stingray. The car has killer
looks, a strong 454, and it's dressed the way it left the factory
half a century ago! Give us a call today and make this cool C3 your
own!
