1973 Mercedes-Benz 280SEL (non-North American production, W116.025)
This is an exceedingly rare vehicle here in North America, having non-North American 5 mph impact-resistant bumpers & large, rectangular lens / reflector - halogen bulb headlights. It is 1 of 7,032 W116.025's built globally between 1974-1980.
Mechanically-sound drive train features the M110 DOHC inline-6 engine with Bosch D-Jetronic fuel injection and a 4-speed manual gearbox.
In 2007, $10K CAD was invested in front suspension work and four-wheel disc brakes renewal at a premier local German auto workshop, Henneken Auto.
No significant kilometrage / road use has occurred since.
Interior is all black leather (unfortunately, with my late friend's German Shepard's signature bite mark on the right rear door panel top) and in otherwise very good condition.
Time spent outdoors in the Northwest since 2006 has taken its' toll in the form of significant rust in the rocker panels, door lowers, right front fender bonnet hinge-mount, rear wheel arches and outer tail light openings. The exterior trim is complete and in excellent condition.
This car could be restored by someone willing to perform fairly extensive sheet metal repairs and a re-paint ... or, it could serve as a drive train / interior parts / trim donor into a different W116.025 .
The only obstacles to driving this vehicle are the currently non-functioning windshield wipers and defrost / heater fan (both non-investigated, but highly likely to be loss of electrical continuity issues).
